Preparation for Day One
Preparing for Day 1
Kick-off with an exciting pre-boarding process to excite new employees about their first day. The following activities are recommended best practices from leaders at all court levels in the state and departments in the administrative office.
Advanced Preparation - Before Day 1
Submit an Onboarding Request ticket to IT for computer, phone, applications access, etc.
Work with Admin/Facilities for security badge/keys/parking
Order equipment (chair, keyboard/mouse, monitor stands/arms)
Schedule New Employee Orientation
Clean and prepare the workspace LIKE NEW
Consider non-cash swag to welcome
Create a detailed agenda for the first week
Prepare a draft (not yet finalized) performance plan from generic templates. Use this to discuss the job's alignment with the Courts' mission and the new employee's individual performance expectations. Prepare to discuss questions the new employee may have about onboarding. Incorporate as appropriate in the final performance plan (structure of courts, district, teams, etc.).
Day 1 Recommendations
Prepare the team and other key internal staff for the new employee by having them think of how to describe the new employee's role in the Courts and the ideal impacts of that role on their own role and others. Consider setting up meetings with the new employee, team members, and other key internal staff so they learn firsthand and right out of the gate how their role ideally fits into the organization and how it advances the Courts' mission.
Consider an in-person review of the online Employee Tour with the new employee.
Have the new employee meet with the district's designated I-9 approver to provide ID(s) from the list of applicable documents.
Schedule a Benefits-in-Brief session conducted for new state employees.
Facility Tour
Schedule appropriate trainings with the Training Coordinator and others
Shadow another employee
Lunch with team
Onboard Buddy (recruitment video)
Review performance & conduct pages with the new employee.
