Class Information -

This class covers: At the end of this class, student would be able to read and write letters in Hindi. They will be able to read simple words, know basic vocabulary, and speak in basic sentences.

Ages: 4-6 (beginners)

March

March 21

Kilkari Svara - Pages 8 and 9 have your vocabulary.


If you didn’t do last week's homework, you have to do whatever you had left and then Pages 11, 12, 14, and 16 on top of that.

March 14

In class today we focused on forming words, speaking, and reading. The students learned how to form words and how that can lead to forming sentences. We had all the students read two lines of the story and understand how the matras work.


Homework: Practice matras, reading, and alphabets



February

February 28

We started class by speaking a few sentences in Hindi. Then we practiced reading sentences and short stories in Hindi from page 3 of the Kilkaari Svara book, and writing words. We ended class by telling a few stories in Hindi as well.


February 21

Today in class we worked on:

  1. Matras both writing and speaking

  2. Word combinations and word-making with matras

  3. We went over the exercise where we had the kids read sentences for the new consonants

Homework: Write pha-ma in the practice book; read all savra and vyajhna letters at least 3 times and recognize them; mantra practice. (Send pictures to the teachers)


February 14

We started off class by reviewing the homework from last week. Then we practiced reading sentences with the letters ट-ढ. The class focused a lot on writing the letters and making sure the students knew what each letter sounds like. Then the students practiced writing the mantras and relating them to words that they are familiar with. We learned one new poem on page 18 of the Kilkaari Pathmaala book and practiced talking. We ended class practicing writing the words with the matra आ.

Homework- Write this week's word and the mantras 3 times in your notebook. then have ta to na in your practice book ready next week.


January

January 31

We started off by reviewing the homework from last week; the colors and a poem. Then we learned words and read sentences with the letters च-झ. We also learned a new poem on page 13 of the Kilkaari Paathmaala book. The homework is to revise all the letters, practice the new poem, and practice writing ट-ढ.


January 24

  • We started the class by practicing writing the first row of consonants and then the students were asked to come up with works that started with each letter.

  • The students were taught a new poem about a crow.

  • The students were then playing an exercise where the teacher would pull out a color and the students had to go find an object that same color and shout out the color in Hindi.

Homework: Practice writing and practice the crow poem


January 17

Today we had parent-teacher conferences and it was great to see everyone! After conferences, we spent the rest of class talking and going over a short presentation with different foods from India.


January 10

For today the main focus of the class was writing and speaking. In the next class we will be transitioning into different activities to help students recognize the colors and certain items around the house.

Homework: Practice writing and speaking the alphabets the students such know all the vowels and all the consonants.


December

December 6

For the whole class, we had the kids practice their alphabets and writing in and memorizing it. then the kids practiced the poem that they will be tested on.

The homework: Study for the test next Sunday. They have to have memorized and present the mouse poem and write/recognize the mantras.



November

November 8

  • Diwali celebration in class :-

  • All kids were well dressed

  • Kids prepared and told 6-8 sentences on Diwali in hindi.

  • We watched small vdo - why we celebrate Diwali & how we celebrate Diwali

  • And all kids made beautiful Diwali Diya on Paper and decorated them.

  • We had fun in our class


HW:

  • Memorize poem learned in class and all alphabets


November 1

  • Alphabet and understanding the first letter of the student's name (focused on the consonants)

  • Numbers 1-10

  • Colors

  • The students learned a new poem


Homework:

Memorize the mouse poem on page 13, a few sentences on Diwali, and practice.


October

October 25

We started the class with a review of what we talked about last week. From that point to the end of class the kids worked on speaking the alphabet in Hindi and what words go with that letter. We got through to the end of the alphabet and continued to practice and see if the kids could come up with anything new words, not in the book.


Homework: A few sentences in Hindi talking about Diwali and for the kids to continue practicing the alphabet.



October 18

We started off class by introducing our names and age in Hindi, and reviewing the letters क-झ.

Then we learned:

  • टमाटर- tomato

  • टोकरी- basket

  • टोपी- hat

  • ठेला- hand cart

  • ठंडी- cold

  • ठिठुर- shivering

  • डमरू- instrument

  • डफली- tambourine

  • डाली- branch

  • ढोल- drum

  • ढिंढोरा- drummer

  • तोता- parrot

  • तितली- butterfly

  • थाली- plate

  • थरमस- thermos

  • थैली- bag

  • दाना- grain

  • दूध- milk

  • दही- yogurt

  • धन- wealth

Then we finished class by practicing pronunciation of the letters क-न. The homework is to practice the pronunciations and review the words of the letters we’ve learned so far (क-न).


October 11

Prayers

Review from last week alphabet (vowels)

We started the class off with reviewing the vowels and then we taught the kids the next two lines of the alphabets which is the start of the consonants. Then we brought the colored pencils out and we played a game for the kids to identify and say the color of the pencils.


Homework: practice alphabet and colors


October 4

We started off class by introducing ourselves and our parent's names in Hindi.

Then we reviewed the vowels we learned last week- अ,आ,इ,ई,उ, and ऊ, and learned these new vowels:

  • एक- one

  • एड़ी- heel


  • ऐनक-spectacles


  • ओढ़नी-stole

  • ओखली-mortar


  • औज़ार-tool

  • औलाद-kid

  • औषधि-medicine


  • अं

  • अंगूर-grape

  • अंडा-egg

  • अँख-eye

  • अँसू-tear


Next, we did some practice with colors:

  • laal- red

  • kala- black

  • sufed- white

  • neela- blue

  • haraa- green

  • booraa- brown

  • baigani- purple

  • narangi-orange

We ended class by learning how to write the vowels.


The homework is to write each vowel three times. Please make sure the kids come prepared to class with a notebook and pencil every week, and review the material we learned.
