Class Information -

This class covers: Visual introduction to Hindu Deities, Asuras, Festivals through videos, art and crafts. Class teaches kids to recognize basic patterns and conventions. E.g., Krishna is painted blue, but his clothing is painted yellow. The hear the popular narratives of Devatas from the Hindu tradition. Teach the ‘Om Jai Jagadish Hare’ Arati. Each class starts with the Namaste gesture and recitation of Om!

1. We practiced the 2 shlokas kids alrrady know and started on the 3rd new one:

Shuklam Bharadaram Vishnum sahsivarnam chaturbhujam

Prasanna Vadanam dhyayet

Sarva Vighna upashantaye

2. We went over the story of Bhakta Prahlad and the Narasimha Avatar of Vishnu. Children colored a picture of lord Vishnu as Narasimha.

Stories- Vishnu and his avatars. Satyavrata and Vishnu fish avatars.

Story of true friendship from Amar Chitra Katha- half story

Om Jaya jagashish hare song- 2 paragraphs

Coloring- fish avatar of Vishnu.

Homework- practice slokas.

November 18

1. We practiced reciting 2 shlokas in a tune:

a) Vakra tunda Mahakaya

b) Saraswati Namstubhyam

2) We briefly spoke about Vishnu and his various avatars. We elaborated further on Krishna's appearance and personality, and saw pictures and Murti of Krishna and a flute.

Children spoke about their own interests in Music. We heard the story of naughty Krishna and how he stole butter and learnt about obedience. We colored a picture of Krishna on page 74 of their book.

3) We recited the first verse of Arti (Om Jai Jagdeesh Hare) and briefly went over safety procedures and last week's homework.

We also talked about Thanksgiving and what it means to be grateful to people who help you

Home work for next time:

1) Practice above shlokas and first verse of Arti

2) Listen to more Krishna stories from Parents.
