May 6th-

Material Covered in Class:

  • Kids presented “famous personalities and places from Maharashtra” in Marathi language. Teen volunteers Ela and Avani had prepared the same for kids and practiced it with them for last 2 weeks. They presented - Mumbai, Pune, Lata Mangeshkar, Sachin Tendulkar, Madhuri Dixit, Lokmanya Tilak and Shivaji Maharaj

  • Kids also presented Marathi class prayer of Saraswati - “Ya kundendu”...

  • Kudos to all Marathi Students, teen volunteers and parents for this presentation.

  • Class also had ice-cream and pizza party today sponsored by Amar and Arvind (families of Teen Volunteers).

  • Next week’s class is optional however there will be weekly homework for Marathi class till we meet next year. This has helped us last year also to ensure kids stay in touch with Marathi.

April 29th-

Material Covered in Class:

  • Teen volunteers have prepared small presentation for students to present as end of year presentation.

  • It is about 6 known people / places from Maharashtra — Mumbai, Pune, Shivaji Maharaj, Lokmanya Tilak, Lata Mangeshkar and Sachin Tendulkar.

  • Kids will be sharing 5 key facts in Marathi about these on May 6th in-front of parents along with a class prayer - “Saraswati Prarthana - Ya Kundendu Tushar har Dhawala”

  • Students have practiced it on Apr 22nd and 29th.

  • There will also be a small class party on May 6th.

April 1st-

  • Please submit the homework by next Sunday though we have no class next week. Take a photo of homework and message it to me. Please help your kids to complete homework. Enjoy the spring break !!!

March 25th-

  • I am noticing that kids are forgetting to recognize letters and simple words.

March 18th-

March 4th-

  • We read stories in Marathi and kids explained /translated those in English.

  • Please ask them to tell those stories to you in Marathi. We also practiced reading of Marathi words and meanings of the same.

February 11th-

Material Covered in Class:

  • Today we did a lot of different things touching on different ways of learning.

  • For some introductions, I asked them to say their name what school they go to and their favorite color.

  • Example:

  • “maaza naav Ela ahey. Me Maple Grove Senior High la zhathe. Ani maaza avadta rang pevla ahey.”

  • -HANDS-ON LEARNING:: we did some Simon says to brush up on body parts (Doka, hath, gudhge, paay, khande, etc...)

  • -WRITTEN LEARNING:: For the writing portion, we wrote some words in Marathi, their translation and the minglish (marathi+English 😂) version of the words. Some of the examples were:

  • • बाबा- baba- dad

  • • बदक- budhak- duck

  • Etc...

  • -ORAL LEARNING: some people had their book today and I told them to give a brief overview of the story in Marathi. If they didn’t know how to translate in Marathi I then told them to say it in English. We also played a number game and said the numbers up to 20. Along with that, we translated some colors in Marathi (लाल=red) and I pointed at letters on the chart and asked them what they were.

  • At the end of class (3 minutes left- 12:27), we played a fun game which they insisted on playing.

  • Overall it was a fun and educational day!

January 28th-

Material Covered in Class:

  • Revision of emotions (Bhavana), Colors (Rang), Numbers (Aakde)

  • conversation in Marathi (question / answer type)

  • Reading Marathi Storybook (Kolha ani Singh)

  • prayer “Ya Kundendu Tushar Har Dhawala”

  • writing of simple Marathi words (Kan, Mama, Baba, Lal)

Homework:

  • I have sent home one Marathi book (story / poems) with every student.

  • Please read it with them so that they can share that next week story / poem with the class in Marathi.

  • Please remind them to bring the books back to school next week so that we can exchange it with other students

January 21st-

Material Covered in Class:

  • Today, we went to temple for Saraswati poojan and at the end of the class covered “Ya kundendu Tushar haar dhawala” prayer of Saraswati. We will practice it at the end of every class to also help with improving pronunciations.

  • We also learned Marathi words to express feelings / emotions “Bhavana”. Attached is the picture of what we covered.

January 7th-

  • We did mock test today in the class - you may want to repeat it with your kids to help them practice reading and understanding of Marathi words and for constructing sentences

December 3rd-

  • In Marathi class, we discussed and started prep for annual presentation with Teen volunteers - Avani and Ila.

  • Also focused on grammar introducing how to identify Nouns, Pro Nouns, Adjective, ad-verb and verbs in Marathi sentences.
