Class Information -

This class covers: Learn the core tenets of Dharma through the example of Shri Rama. Focus is on the Ramayanas of Valmiki, Tulsidas and Kamban. Use the animated Ramayana DVD to start the year. Cover the main episodes in the story of Ramayana. Each class should have an activity. Teach the Hanuman Chalisa and Ramastuti.

Reviewed the important events and personalities in the Ramayana epic we covered in this academic year (2017-2018). Conducted a pop quiz on Ramayana and finished the class with snacks & sweets.

March 25th-

Material Covered in Class:

  • We practiced the lines for each character.

  • We also practiced the Hanuman Chalisa.

Homework:

  • Come at 9:30 next Sunday to get ready for the presentation.

  • Dress up like the character you were assigned. Example: If you are Lakshmana, dress up like Lakshmana.

  • MEMORIZE and practice the Hanuman Chalisa up to number 15.

  • Also, think about some lines about the character that you will say in the presentation.

March 11th-

Material Covered in Class:

  • We practiced Hanuman Chalisa

Homework:

  • Have the kids pick a character from the Ramayana and write

  • 4-5 sentences explaining the role of that character in the Ramayana. Bring that to the next class.

  • Also, practice the entire Hanuman Chalisa.

March 4th-

Material Covered in Class:

  • We recapped what we learned in Ramayana.

  • We began deciding on roles for the presentation.

  • The script will be given next week.

  • We practiced the Hanuman Chalisa

Homework:

  • Think about what you would like to be in the skit.

  • Practice the Hanuman Chalisa.

February 18th-

Material Covered in Class:

  • We learned the Hanuman Chalisa

Homework:

  • Practice the entire Hanuman Chalisa

  • Try to memorize!

January 28th-

Material Covered in Class:

  • We did meditation in class.

  • Half the class meditated while the other half observed and told the others what they did good, and what they needed to improve.

  • Then they switched, and the other half meditated.

  • We also learned about the story of the genie.

Homework:

  • Practice the Hanuman Chalisa

January 21st-

Material Covered in Class:

  • We learned about the war.

  • We learned about how Meghanada shot Rama and Lakshmana. Rama and Lakshmana were revived by Garuda, the eagle mount of Bhagavan Vishnu.

Homework:

  • Practice Hanuman Chalisa

January 7th-

Material Covered in Class:

  • We learned about the conflict between Vali and Sugreeva.

  • We also learned how Hanuman was not treated as a proper guest by Ravana, and how Hanuman's tail was lit on fire and what he did to stop the fire.

Homework:

  • Memorize Doha and first three paragraphs of the Hanuman Chalisa. (First Page)

December 17th-

Material Covered in Class:

  • We covered chapter 15-20 in class. We learned about the disagreement between Vali and Sugriva, and how Rama helps Sugriva defeat Vali

Homework:

  • Have a great winter break, see you in 2018!

December 10th-

Material Covered in Class:

  • We covered Chapter 11, "Rama meets with Rishi Bharadvaja & Rishi Valmiki" & Chapter 12, "The Death of King Dasharatha & Bharatha's Return".

Homework:

October 29th-

  • Recapped and discussed previous conversations of Rushi Valmiki, King Dasharath, Story of Shravankumar, birth of Ram and brothers (Bharat, Shartughna, Laxman).

  • Students be encouraged to read the chapters (home work) so that they can actively participate in the discussion.

Homework:

  • Read Chapters 10, 11, & 12 of the Ramayana Textbook

  • PARENTS: Please make sure your child brings a pencil, eraser, notebook, and Ramayana Textbook EVERY class

October 15th-

Material Covered in Class:

  • Recap of Chapters 1-6

  • Started learning Hanuman Chalisa

  • Read chapters 7 and 8

  • Practice first Doha(Verse) of the Hanuman Chalisa Found at the end of your Ramayana Textbook

Homework:

  • Please email the HATS teachers if your child has not received or seems to have misplaced the Ramayana textbook. If we do not see an email from you, your child is expected to bring the textbook with them to class every week.

October 1st-

Material Covered in Class:

  • Discussed chapters 3 & 4 of Ramayana textbook

  • Took a short quiz on both chapters in class.

Homework:

  • Read Chapters 5 and 6, students are highly encouraged to take notes and write down any questions they have in their class notebooks.

  • Parents should be discussing chapter content with their children as necessary as well.

  • There is no HATS class next week, we will see you all on October 15th

September 24th-

Material Covered in Class:

  • Took an interactive quiz on the first two chapters of the Ramayana Textbook.

  • Discussed the contents of the first two chapters which included the history of the Ramayana as well as information about the 10 Avatars.

Homework:

  • Read Chapters 3 & 4 of the Ramayana Textbook

  • PARENTS: Please make sure your child brings a pencil, eraser, notebook, and Ramayana Textbook EVERY class.

September 17th-

  • Did class introductions, talked briefly about the schedule/plan for the year, and introduced the Ramayana

Homework:

  • Read Chapters One and Two of the Ramayana textbook.

  • Quiz NEXT WEEK (9/24) on Chapters One and Two.

  • Bring a backpack, pencil, eraser, notebook, and Ramayana textbook every single class

  • No snacks allowed in class
