Class Information -

This class covers: Visual introduction to Hindu Deities, Asuras, Festivals through videos, art and crafts. Class teaches kids to recognize basic patterns and conventions. E.g., Krishna is painted blue, but his clothing is painted yellow. The hear the popular narratives of Devatas from the Hindu tradition. Teach the ‘Om Jai Jagadish Hare’ Arati. Each class starts with the Namaste gesture and recitation of Om!

March 8

We started out with saying some slokas.

Then the kids learned two stories, one about why we celebrate Holi, and one about a nice elephant.

Also we colored the picture of a Vishnu avatara on page 56/57.

The homework is practicing the first drive paragraphs of om jay jagethesh


March 1

Today we practices sholkas. Then we made chakra’s. We read stories about the avatars of Vishnu. Afterwards we all learned the song Om Jai Jagdish hare.


February

February 2

We practiced for our presentation on Feb 9.

Specifically, we practiced our skit on the Vishnu Kurma Avatara and slokas.

Then the kids also learned about some other short stories.


January

January 26

Today we practiced the shlokas and practiced for our skit. Then we went upstairs to the temple.


January 19

First we recited some shlokas

Then we practiced for our presentation on February 9th.

Then we read some stories and colored a picture on page 49.


For homework the kids should practice Jai Jagdish and Shuklambaradharam


January 12

Today in Dharma level 1 we had the parent/teacher conference.

We talked about what we are doing in class and about the presentation on February 9.


After that we practiced for the presentation and then did some shlokas.


January 5

Today they practiced shlokas and after that we read stories about Vishnu and one about Krishna.

December

December 8

Today the kids recited 3 slokas, read two stories (one about a man who worked hard to make a living for himself and another asuras and devas), and did some stretches.

November

November 24

Today we talked about Krishna story and we practiced the shlokas. At the end we did a craft and made crowns and decorated them.


November 17

Today we listened to stories about Krishna.

Then we recited 3 slokas and learned a new one that you are supposed to do when you wake up.

The kids also colored a picture of Krishna (pages 72,74,75)

The kids also got glow in the dark bracelets!


November 10

We read about Krishna’s birth and after that we colored a picture of Krishna. Then we went upstairs and visited Krishna. After that we played a game.


November 3

First they heard a story about respecting parents and other dharma values.

Then they did some slokas.

And then the kids colored a picture in their book.

October

October 27

First the kids heard a story about why we celebrate Diwali.

Then we did a Diwali craft (making a pooja thali).

Then we did the gift exchange.


October 13

Today we discussed about the story of Diwali. The story of Rama’s life. Also at the end we made clay diyas and decorated it.


October 6

Today in Dharma level 1 there it was a meditation class.

The kids are encouraged to meditate for 5 minutes every night.

At the end of the class the kids learned a Saraswati Sloka

September 29

Today in Dharma level 1 the kids learned a Shiva story and sloka.

They also read two animal stories from the Amarchitrakatha book.

They also colored the picture of Shiva on page 20 of their book


September 22

Today the kids learned the story about Ganesha and how he came to have his elephant head.

Then we learned a Ganesha sloka and did a Ganesha craft.
