Dharma 2A - ABC of Dharma

Class Information -

This class covers: Introduce some key moral values and Hindu etiquette through the alphabet and stories from Hindu scriptures. Teach the recitation of ‘OM’, Gayatri Mantra.

Children should be able to learn some basic Dharma vocabulary in this year.

Ages: 5-6 / Grade: K-1

Material Covered in Class:

  • As usual we started the class with 3 OM’s .

  • Atma:

    • Things that have life in them grow.

    • Things that have life will move from one place to another.

    • Things that have life try to protect themselves when someone attacks them.

    • Atma is the one that gives life to these things that grow, move and protect themselves.

    • We also did a class exercise to understand the things that has atma and things that does not have atma.

  • Bhagavan:

    • There are so many forms of god. Instead of calling their name as Brahma, Vishnu, Ganesh, Shiva, we can just use one name as Bhagavan.

  • Brahma:

    • When Bhagavan wants to creates moon, sun, starts , earth, anmimal and humans. He takes the form of Brahma.

    • Brahma is the Creator of Universe.

    • Brahma flies around on White Swan.

    • He sits of Lotus flower.

    • He has 4 heads.

    • He gave us 4 Vedas.

    • Rigveda.

    • Yajurveda.

    • Samaveda.

    • Atharvaveda.

    • Brahma is worshipped in the form of Yajna.

  • Buddhi

    • Buddhi means intelligence.

    • Kids who has buddhi will not do bad things.

    • We did go over some examples of what a Good and Bad kid do.

    • If our brain gets hurts we will loose buddhi.

    • We did talk about the things that we should do / use to protect out brain.

    • Example : Always wear helmet when riding bike or playing baseball.

    • Do not dive into swimming pool that is not deep enough.

  • We ended the class by learning Devi Durga stotra.

Homework:

  • Kids talk to parents and figure out the meaning of their name.

  • Parents please help kids to recite Durga Stotra.
