Dharma 2 - ABC of Dharma

Class Information -

This class covers: Introduce some key moral values and Hindu etiquette through the alphabet and stories from Hindu scriptures. Teach the recitation of ‘OM’, Gayatri Mantra.

Children should be able to learn some basic Dharma vocabulary in this year.

Ages: 5-6 / Grade: K-1

September 16-

We are really excited to start the Dharma 2 classes. Below is the summary of the class.

We started the class with 3 OMs and Ganesh Sloka. We also reviewed the rules of chanting OM i.e

1. Closing eyes

2. Staying still

3. Doing Namate and chanting OM.

We started with alphabet A and discussed the words AUM, Ahimsa ,Avatara and Atma.

AUM.

1. This is the most beautiful name of God.

2. We should start our day with chanting AUM.

3. Three main forms of gods are Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh.

4. Brahma the Creator of Universe.

5. Vishnu is the Protector of Universe.

6. Mahesh /Shiva is the destroyer.

7 . In AUM A is Brahma , U is Vishnu and M is MAhesha.

8. The children were able to identify each of the pictures of these Gods

Ahimsa .

1. We discussed what Ahimsa means and how practicing Ahimsa makes Bhagavan

happy.

2. We read a story of how Ganesh hurt his mother Parvathi.

Avatara

1. We discussed how Bhagavan takes different forms to defeat evil people because he loves all of us.

2. The children did an exercise of matching the pictures of the Gods with their Avatars.

Atma

1. Some things have life in them and some don't.

2. Things that have life in them grow with time or become smaller with time.

3. When we have atma we have life.

Please help your children bring the Dharma book, a pencil and a notebook to the class each week.
