Class Information -

This class covers: Instructive narratives from Panchatantra, the Puranas, Hitopadesha, Jain scriptures etc. to teach them some practical wisdom and Hindu etiquette. Use the game ‘Snakes and Ladders’. Learn the general Shlokas used in the Temple Liturgy.

NOTE: if you choose option 3, if possible try to somehow relate your activity to something that we have learned in class.

ex: Art: maybe draw something from a story in the book that you would like to draw

Sport: show us the sport you like to do and then talk about a “sport” that was explained in a story for example Arjuna was an archer(pg 28)

February 2

At the start of class, the test was shown. Then we read stories 31 and 32. We talked about ahimsa and giving a part of what you have to someone else. When the discussion ended we played a game.

Homework: Please review classroom expectations of respecting the teachers and go over the stories meanings.

January 26

This week we took a test on book chapters 1-30. There is no homework, but we suggest you do some light review and application of the stories. It also doesn’t hurt to skim future chapters!


January 19

In class on 1/19/20 -

  • Revised stories 1-10 for the quiz next Sunday 1/26/2020

Homework - As mentioned 2 weeks ago in parent-teacher conference there is paper based multiple choice quiz next class 1/26/20. *Prepare kids by reading stories 11-30 in the book.* The test will be sent home when graded.


January 12

Today in class the parents came for parent teacher conferences. We talked about what we did so far, the annual presentation and what we are doing.

Once the parents left we did our beginning prayers and talked about the last story in our text book (story 30) which was about picking up your dishes after eating a meal.

Homework:

STUDY FOR THE QUIZ ON 1-26-19

  • The quiz will be sent home

  • Read stories 1-30 (p. 2-36)

  • Study every day!!!

November

November 10

Today in class we said our morning prayers. We also read three stories.

One was on how to respect your peers and never to make fun of us. One was on not trusting strangers to hurt your family. The last one is on respecting your teachers. We complemented each other. Then at the end of class we had a small quiz on the stories.


HW— talk about different ways you can stay out of danger, and respecting the people around you!!


November 3

In class today we recited

  • - Pg 107-108 night prayer “kaayena vaacha”, prayer asking for Bhagvans forgiveness, prayer before eating food.

  • - Pg 15-18 Read 3 stories, discussed morals and teachings with examples

  • -Please share Akbar-Birbal stories on youtube/ through books so they will share with us next class. No one was prepared this class.

  • -Remind kids everyday how God is One and has many forms, God is inside Beautiful and also Ugly, God can visit us in any form.
