Class & Homework-

January 13

Great work by Ananya, Anjali, Maya and Shishir today. Children were very focused to create the Pongal greetings with drawings and tamil writing for their grand parents/uncles/aunts!

The drawing example we used is attached. We added words related to Pongal: Karumbu Vellam, Paal, Paanai, Inji, and Manjal. Overall, they had fun and enjoyed it! Please help them take the words, and mail the greetings as well as perhaps a timely camera picture and email them in the interim. Pongal day is Tuesday, Jan 15 in India, FYI.

Showed also slides related to Pongal for them. Click HERE

Children were practising writing. They want to learn reading. We will pick up in next class.

Happy Pongal!

September 30 - October 14

Dear HATS Tamil class Parents,

வணக்கம்!

In the last three classes we covered the following:

1. Reviewed Tamil words (colors, animals, vegetables, food items, body parts); Writing your own name in Tamil.

2. One to two minute conversation in Tamil (describe any event or experience or school or activities) from each student in (in every class this is done. Please try to converse in Tamil as you drive them from/to HATS and this helps them to think bilingual).

3. In the last two classes I played video/audio files of stories (10 minutes usually) meant for children and narrated in Tamil. Children seem to like it as they giggle when they hear! They seem to enjoy it, as these are animated as well.

Next class (10/21) is off as you know (Diwali celebration of mandir).

10/28 class is when a Film is going to be screened in the auditorium. I will confirm or look for HATS mail if language is there or not on 10/28.

Please spend some time with your child an intro to Tamilnadu Culture and Temples slide set attached. This can be a good reference even for older kids.

I mix the information in small doses over time to give a variety to students to keep them focused.

இனிய தீபாவளி வாழ்த்துக்கள்!

Sincerely,

-Shankar
