Ich erwähnte auf der Seite zum maritimen Erbe die Fernsehversion der Para Handy-Geschichten von 1994-95, die in den 1920-30ern angesiedelt war. Darin sieht man anhand ein paar Beispielen, wie sich das Zeitalter des Jazz auch im Westen Schottlands bemerkbar machte, und dafür werde ich Ihnen im Folgenden ein gutes Beispiel präsentieren - Andrew Campbell, wie er zuhause seinem Grammophon lauscht:

On the page relating to maritime heritage, I mentioned the TV version of the Para Handy stories of 1994-95 which was set in the 1920-30s, and there ye will see by a few examples how the Jazz Age made itself felt even in the West of Scotland, as I shall demonstrate by one good example in the following - Andrew Campbell at home, listening to his gramophone:

Berlin war eine der Hauptstädte der Ära des Jazz und des Cabaret, bevor 1933 die Nazis kamen, und es fand sich so mancher Star und manches Sternchen jener Zeit, egal, ob sie aus Großbritannien, aus den Vereinigten Staaten oder aus Schweden stammten, und die Mehrheit residierte im Adlon, oder im Kempinski, mit den Fürsten - und es ging hoch her jeden Tag und zu jeder Nacht mit Charleston und Shimmy, den typischen Tänzen, die sie hatten...Also, treten Sie ein und shimmy on !Most of this music would be played at the ballrooms of the great hotels, and on the big overseas steamers that would go to America or to Australia. Below ye will find a good example of one of the grand hotels of yon era, namely the Adlon in Berlin. Berlin was one of the capital cities of the Jazz Age before the coming of the Nazis in 1933, and many a star or a starlet of yon age was found there, whether they hailed from Britain, the United States or from Sweden, and they would all be biding at the Adlon or at the Kempinski, together with the nobility - and there would be high life going on with Charleston and Shimmy, the typical dances they had...So, come in and shimmy on !

Doch fand man zu Oban keine leicht oder gar nicht geschürzten Nachtklubtänzerinnen, und die findet man in jener Stadt auch noch heute nicht.

But even in the small towns of the Scottish Highlands that would be frequented by tourists, this genre of music would be heard at the big hotels such as the Station Hotel in Oban, or at the Regent which had been built in that very era. But no half-clad or unclad cabaret girls were found in Oban, and they are very unlikely to be found in yon town even today.

Well, it was an Englishman who made these wee films, and yet it is the everyday life of the Gaels in yon days one will see here. That will give youse a taste of the days when the ferries began to carry cars and lorries...
