MEMBER SHIRTS - PAY YOUR $30

New UA member shirts were given out Thursday. If you have not yet paid, please do so as soon as possible.

BAND FEES = DEBT LIST

Students who still owe money towards band fees (including the new UA member shirts) will be put on the debt list at the beginning of September. If you are on the debt list, you cannot partcipate in club day, among other things. Seniors who are still on the debt list cannot participate in graduation until all debts are paid. Remember you can pay all debts online now - scroll down for details.

COOKIE DOUGH FUNDRAISER STARTS TUESDAY!

This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and we're kicking it off with our annual Cookie Dough Calling Party at the end of rehearsal on Tuesday, August 26th. Start thinking about who you can call, and bring your call list on Tuesday. Each sale earns a prize! This year we're adding online orders shipped directly to the customer, so even family and friends who aren't local can participate and support the band.

It's not too late to order band pictures. You have two options:

Fill out the order form, put the form and your payment in an envelope, and bring it to Mr. Carter by Friday. You must either write a check (payable to Prestige Digital Imaging) or bring the exact amount in cash; no change can be given. This option includes free shipping.

HEY PARENTS: WE NEED EQUIPMENT CREW!

Coach Lou Burroughs is looking for 2-3 reliable adults to join the EQUIPMENT CREW. The equipment crew helps to unload the trailer for each performance, helps the students with the equipment, deals with the drum major podium, and helps load the truck after the performance. Equipment Crew members are NOT required to ride the bus. You will get into the game for free.

To serve on the Equipment Crew, you MUST:

Be available for most, if not all, games and competitions.
Have a valid background check, no more than 5 years ago, completed by the Screven County Sheriff's Office.
Complete the online Mandated Reporter training. This must be done EVERY YEAR, so even if you did it last year, you must do it again.

CAROLINA BAND DAY - SEPT. 6

Please, please, PLEASE learn this music BEFORE September 6th!

Need your music printed? No problem, but remember it is MUCH EASIER to print music for you BEFORE or AFTER SCHOOL (not before or after class).

8:00 a.m. REPORT to SCHS; water bottles/ice; load buses

11:00 a.m. lunch in Columbia (fast food - bring $$)
12noon Check in at Spurrier Indoor Football Practice Facility
12:45 p.m. Rehearsal with Carolina Band
3:00 p.m. Break; Chick-fil-A lunch/dinner (included)
4:10 p.m. Walk to Williams-Brice Stadium
7:00 p.m. Kickoff
HALFTIME - perform with Carolina Band

After halftime, we will load and return to SCHS.

Approximate return time is 11:45 p.m.

CAROLINA BAND DAY CHAPERONES

Have you completed the background check and Mandated Reporter training? THIS MUST BE COMPLETED THIS WEEK or you cannot travel with us, and there are NO REFUNDS.

BE READY FOR AFTER-SCHOOL REHEARSALS

Remember, denim is not allowed at rehearsal, and you must have the right shoes. Make sure you stay hydrated throughout the day so you will be ready for the heat after school.

MARCHING BAND COMPETITIONS

We will compete twice this season:

Saturday, September 27th: "Band Blast" at Southeast Bulloch HS.
Saturday, October 25th: East Georgia Marching Band Championships at Statesboro HS.

Competition days are an all-day affair, so please plan accordingly.

POST-GAME CLEANUP

The band did an outstanding job at the Vidalia game on Friday. However, there are a few things we can do better AFTER the game:

instrument storage room

These ponchos were left in the back of the band truck.

If you must move chairs into the hallway, PUT THEM BACK before you leave.

This ice chest was full of ice and bottled water, and was left OPEN in the rain.

LISTEN TO THIS!

"LISTEN TO THIS" is a regular feature in our newsletter where I challenge each member of the band to listen to some great music. Today's video is a recording of Overture to Colas Breugnon by Dmitri Kabalevsky, performed by the band at the University of Michigan. I remember playing this piece when I was in college (30 years ago!), and I really enjoyed it. I remember being impressed by all the talented musicians showcased by this piece, especially the xylophonist!
