PERCUSSION ONLY on Monday, May 16, 3:45 - 5:15p. This is for any student interested in being part of the percussion section next year.
Tuesday, May 17 AND Thursday, May 19, 3:45 - 5:15p. Meet outside at the practice field, weather permitting. If the weather is bad, we will meet indoors.
If you plan to march next year, there is a $40 non-refundable deposit towards your band fees due on Thursday, May 19. If you cannot pay this deposit, please let us know and we will work something out.
Band fees for 2022-2023 are $100 per student, and include the show shirt. Other items, such as shoes, hoodies, etc., are additional.
We will be taking orders for the red Under Armour shirt on May 19. Other items can be ordered in July.
CLARIFICATION regarding $40 due Thursday: This $40 is the first payment towards your $100 band fee, so in July you will owe $60. The $40 is nonrefundable, so if you change your mind and decide not to march, you lose your $40.
I will also be accepting orders for the red Under Armour band shirt. All wind and percussion players need one of these. The shirt is $28. 3XL and larger is $30.
If paying by check, make your check payable to SCHS. You can write one check for both the deposit and the shirt (total of $68; $70 for 3XL shirt).
As we do every year, the SCHS Symphonic Band will perform at graduation. This performance is required and is a grade, just like any other.
The gates will open on Friday at 6:00 p.m.; please be in the Band Room as soon as possible after that. We will rehearse inside for a little less than an hour, then make our way to the football field for the ceremony.
WHAT TO WEAR: Gentlemen should wear a shirt with a collar (button-down is preferred; polo is OK), slacks or khakis, dress socks, and dress shoes. A tie is suggested, but not required. Ladies should dress nicely: wear something you would wear if your male companion was wearing a nice shirt and slacks, keeping in mind that your skirt, dress, or shorts need to go past your knee while you are seated.
I want to encourage you to consider spending a week with other student musicians at a summer band camp. You'll spend a week playing great music, making new friends, and plenty of other fun activities, too! Two great camps happen right here in Georgia:
Encore! Summer Band Camp is June 19-23 at Georgia State College and University in Milledgeville, GA. For more info: https://encorebandcamp.com/
The University of Georgia School of Music hosts a music camp AND a marching band leadership camp. Both are in June and take place on their campus in Athens. For more info: https://music.uga.edu/summer-music-camps
