Damage at school appears to be minimal, except for the high school auditorium roof. The marching band tower was knocked over as well. The high school band room is fine (yay!). To that end, our plan is to carry on with rehearsal on Friday afternoon, followed by the game vs. Bryan County on Friday evening.
The sales rep from Neff will be here on Tuesday, October 8th before school. If you want a letter jacket for your varsity letter, you must order it from him directly. Bring your varsity letter. If you earned a varsity letter but didn't get one and you want to order a jacket, see Mr. Carter.
Only students who have earned a varsity letter in band can order a band letter jacket. You earn your varsity letter after two complete years of service to the band.
Not feeling well? If you have a fever or have been vomiting any time over the past 24 hours, you need to STAY HOME from marching band (and from school). Parents, please communicate with Mr. Carter when your child will miss rehearsal. The best way to do this is to call or text the Band Hotline: (912) 549-0262. Go ahead and put that number in your contacts now so you'll have it if/when you need it.
If you are experiencing COVID symptoms, please STAY HOME, and consider getting tested. Do not come back to band (or school) until you are symptom-free for 24 hours. And of course, hit up the band hotline to let us know what's going on.
If you are willing to serve as a chaperone this season, there are two requirements that must be completed. See our chaperone page for details (click here).
Band members who do not perform during the Final Run-Through are not allowed to perform with the band, regardless of reason (excused or unexcused). Typically, the final run-through happens on Thursday at the end of rehearsal for the Friday football game. Students who miss the final run-through may still be allowed to perform in the stands, but will sit out of the on-field performance.
This rule is in place for the safety of all students, and to underscore the importance of being in rehearsal.
Note that the staff may not allow a student to perform any time we feel that allowing that student on the field puts other students in danger of injury. (Students who don't know their drill can cause other students to fall, resulting in injuries and damaged instruments.)
