MR. CARTER
There is an optional help session on Thursday for those who signed up to audition. Let Mr. Carter know by Wednesday if you plan to come.
Please take a moment and reserve your seat TODAY for our Christmas Concert. CLICK HERE to reserve a spot for you and your family. Thank you for helping us plan ahead so that we can keep everyone safe.
The Symphonic Band concert is Tuesday, December 8, beginning at 7:30 p.m. (Note the time change!) in the SCHS Auditorium. Admission is free. Masks will be required in the audience. The concert will also be livestreamed on Gamecock TV.
All band members are expected to wear ALL BLACK, LONG BLACK for our concerts. For men, that means a black shirt (long sleeve preferred), black pants, black socks, and black shoes (Bandos work well for this). Ladies can wear a black top and black slacks, a black top and a long black skirt, or a long black dress. Black shoes are also required for ladies. "Long black" applies to sleeves and skirt/dress length.
The Screven County Christmas Lights Parade is Saturday, December 12. The parade is in downtown Sylvania starting at 6:30 p.m. Report time for students is 5:00 p.m. in the SCHS Band Room. Since it will be dark outside, plan to decorate your instrument (and/or yourself) with Christmas lights!
Attire for the parade: Full uniform plus a SANTA HAT. If you do not have a RED Santa hat, you can borrow one of mine. (I recommend you get your own, though!)
NOTE: We have added a marching band rehearsal on Thursday, December 10, to practice for the parade. The rehearsal is 3:45 - 5:00 p.m.
Each week, I recommend a piece of band music I think you will enjoy. Once again we have a piece that was originally written for symphony orchestra, but is well-suited for the concert band. The piece is the March from Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by Carl Maria von Weber, and was a tribute to von Weber by its composer, Paul Hindemith. The march is the 4th and final movement.
Don't forget to let Mr. Carter know! The best way is to text the Band Hotline: (912) 549-0262. You can also email Mr. Carter at hank.carter@screven.k12.ga.us, or send a message via Remind. It is NOT good enough to tell a friend, "Hey, I won't be there because of ____." You need to TELL MR. CARTER DIRECTLY.
DURING BAND CLASS: Masks are required as you enter the band area, while you are in the instrument storage room (lockers), and at the start of band class. Go directly to your assigned seat in class. Obviously, you will need to remove your mask in order to play (except percussion). Put your mask back on if another section is working. Masks must be put on when we pack up at the end of class.
AFTER SCHOOL: Just like during band camp, masks should be worn at the start of rehearsal, during transitions, and at dismissal. Now that we are starting our regular after-school routine, we will not be doing screening/temperature checks before practice. Please stay home if you are sick. Please go home if you get sick during the school day.
