Here's a few tips from someone who has been to a WHOLE BUNCH of band camps:
Get outside so you will be acclimated to the heat. ("Acclimated" is a word which here means that you will be used to it.)
Starting Monday, no sodas/pop/cokes. Drink water, lemonade, or iced tea. Gatorade and Powerade are OK in limited quantities. Water is best.
Drink MORE water than you usually would, starting now. To feel good during band camp, you have to start hydrating early.
Eat breakfast, even if you usually don't. You don't want to be the kid who doesn't feel good a few hours in because you didn't have breakfast.
But don't drink milk or eat other dairy products (especially yogurt or cottage cheese). These things will curdle in your stomach and you will get sick. Water is your friend in the morning.
Limit your caffeine intake. Too much caffeine (coffee) makes it difficult for your body to stay hydrated.
Bring a hat with a brim to keep the sun out of your eyes. A ball cap or visor will work well.
Bring sunglasses.
You need athletic shoes for outside, but some people like to bring slides, flip flops, or crocs to change into for indoor rehearsal. That's fine, just don't leave your extra footwear lying around the band room.
Wear comfortable clothes - a tshirt and athletic shorts are best. Moisture-wicking athletic shirts are ideal. Also, you shirt should cover your shoulders.
Denim is not allowed during marching band. It is stiff and retains moisture, making it very bad for marching band. So save those blue jeans for cooler weather when marching band is finished.
If you haven't gotten your instrument out in a while, it's time to dust it off and make sure it works. Scroll down to download your music, plus we will give you a folder of music on Monday night. If something is wrong, bring it to the orientation on Monday night and have Mr. Carter look at it.
Listen to the show music! Videos are posted below.
Bring a pencil for music rehearsals.
Don't forget to pack a lunch!
Yes, it will be challenging, but it will be fun! Remember: BAND IS FUN.
All marching band members need to be able to play the Alma Mater and the Fight Song by the time band camp starts on July. Click on your instrument folder below to find PDFs of your music.
What do you mean, you haven't listened to it yet?
Our 2021 show is about FRIENDSHIP. It will help if you are familiar with these tunes:
