The audition for District Honor Band is December 14th. (If you score high enough on the District audition, you qualify for the All-State audition in January. See Mr. Carter for details.)
The fee to audition for District Honor Band is $8 and must be paid by TUESDAY, Sept. 24.
The fee to audition for All-State is $33 and must be paid by TUESDAY, Sept. 24. NOTE: This fee includes both All-State and District Honor Band.
Let's send a WHOLE BUNCH of Screven people to Honor Band this year! There's no reason why we can't do it, except that you have to PRACTICE. Learn your scales, and learn an etude. The audition materials are available online. Click the link below; 9th and 10th graders should look at the "Concert Band" material; 11th and 12th graders should look at the "Symphonic Band" material. For District Honor Band, you need to learn your scales, your chromatic scale, and the LYRICAL ETUDE.

Hopefully you have looked ahead at the calendar and seen that we have a football game during fall break (Friday, October 4th). It is a home game. We will meet at 2:30 p.m. on Friday to review the show, then dinner will be provided - chicken fingers from Walls Diner! (NOTE: All students must remain on campus during the dinner break.) We will march in as usual at 6:30 p.m. for 7:30 kickoff.
The sales rep from Neff will be here on Tuesday, October 8th before school. If you want a letter jacket for your varsity letter, you must order it from him directly. Bring your varsity letter. If you earned a varsity letter but didn't get one and you want to order a jacket, see Mr. Carter.
Only students who have earned a varsity letter in band can order a band letter jacket. You earn your varsity letter after two complete years of service to the band.
Please know that when your child misses rehearsal, it affects the whole band. As we learn new drill and your child is not there, we either have to go back and repeat what everyone else already learned, or your child simply will not learn that part of the show. Either way, it's a loss. Please do everything you can for your child to be at rehearsal.
If your child must miss rehearsal, I need something IN WRITING (preferably a text or email) FROM YOU, THE PARENT/GUARDIAN.
Thanks,
Mr. Carter
During band camp, we rehearsed 6-8 hours each day. Now that school has started, we rehearse 4-6 hours PER WEEK. Please protect our rehearsal time by scheduling doctor/dentist appointments, work, make-up tests, etc. so that you don't have to miss practice.
Not feeling well? If you have a fever or have been vomiting any time over the past 24 hours, you need to STAY HOME from marching band (and from school). Parents, please communicate with Mr. Carter when your child will miss rehearsal. The best way to do this is to call or text the Band Hotline: (912) 549-0262. Go ahead and put that number in your contacts now so you'll have it if/when you need it.
If you are experiencing COVID symptoms, please STAY HOME, and consider getting tested. Do not come back to band (or school) until you are symptom-free for 24 hours. And of course, hit up the band hotline to let us know what's going on.
If you are willing to serve as a chaperone this season, there are two requirements that must be completed. See our chaperone page for details (click here).
Band members who do not perform during the Final Run-Through are not allowed to perform with the band, regardless of reason (excused or unexcused). Typically, the final run-through happens on Thursday at the end of rehearsal for the Friday football game. Students who miss the final run-through may still be allowed to perform in the stands, but will sit out of the on-field performance.
This rule is in place for the safety of all students, and to underscore the importance of being in rehearsal.
Note that the staff may not allow a student to perform any time we feel that allowing that student on the field puts other students in danger of injury. (Students who don't know their drill can cause other students to fall, resulting in injuries and damaged instruments.)
Khadeidra S. (flute) - Sept. 5
Janasia H. (clarinet) - Sept. 8
J1 (trumpet) - Sept. 8
Rebekah H. (trombone) - Sept. 20
Mackenzie P. (tuba) - Sept. 21
Logan H. (baritone) - Sept. 30
*If your birthday is this month and your name isn't here, it's because I don't have your birthday on my list. Send it to me and I'll add you to the list!
Call or text the Band Hotline: (912) 549-0262.
Ways to NOT attempt to contact Mr. Carter: FB or Insta DM, tell a friend, smoke signals, tell Ms. O, text someone else who lives at my house, carrier pigeon, ESP. Just text the hotline.
