LGPE stands for Large Group Performance Evaluation, and it is our annual assessment for our Symphonic Band. This year's Evaluation will be on Friday, March 13. Our performance is at 12:30 p.m. at the GSU Armstrong Campus in Savannah. More details are coming, but students should plan to miss the whole day of school on March 13.
Our first after-school rehearsal in preparation for LGPE (and our pre-LGPE Concert -- see below) is THIS WEEK: Thursday, February 6, 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. Any student who misses a rehearsal without prior approval (other than illness) will not perform at LGPE, and your grade will be adjusted accordingly. Please check the calendar, clear your schedule, and be at rehearsal.
Request an excused absence using our Google Form: https://forms.gle/5SANpthUz2ForE528
This link was also sent separately via Remind and on Google Classroom. Or, you scan the QR code posted in the front of the band room. Excuses must be posted to the Google Form the day before the rehearsal.
Officer Candidate School (OCS) is for any current marching band members in grades 9-11 who are interested in a leadership position for the 2020-2021 season. Our first meeting is after school on Friday, February 7, 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Some common OCS myths:
MYTH: I'm just a freshman, so I can't be a leader next year.
TRUTH: Yes you can! And besides, it's never too late to start preparing for whatever leadership position you might want in your junior or senior year(s).
MYTH: Only the best players/marchers/performers can be leaders.
TRUTH: Leadership simply requires you to be willing to work hard, and to have a positive attitude. Anyone who wants to help the band can be a leader.
MYTH: No one is going to listen to me, so I can't be a leader.
TRUTH: That's actually something we talk about and learn about in OCS. You should come and check it out!
MYTH: I don't have to come to all the OCS meetings, I'll just come to the last one or two.
TRUTH: Bad idea. If you need to miss because of sports or other activities, we can work that out; just let Mr. Carter know.
Part of our preparation for LGPE is a concert in our auditorium. We invite a guest panel of judges to come and make comments; parents, family, and friends are also welcome. The concert is Tuesday, February 25, at 6:30 p.m. The SCMS 7th/8th Grade Band will perform first, with the high school band taking the stage around 7:15 p.m.
THANK YOU to everyone who helped with Band Buddies this week at SCMS! Band Buddies is a program we started last year in which SCHS Band members buddy up with an SCMS Band member who plays a similar instrument. We do this once every other week after school at SCMS. Our next session is Monday, February 10. Let Mr. Carter know if you can help.
Our next Band Booster meeting is Tuesday, February 4, at 6:00 p.m. Students are welcome to attend booster meetings WITH AN ADULT.
