As always, ask if you need help.
1. Insert a thumb drive into your Chromebook, and download your scenes from the Google Shared Drive onto that thumb drive.
2. Eject the thumb drive.
3. Remove the thumb drive from your Chromebook, then insert it into one of the USB ports on the back of the iMac.
4. On the iMac, bring your mouse to the bottom of the screen so the app drawer appears. Click on the Finder icon.
5. On the left side of the window, click “Desktop.”
6. Select the File menu (top of the screen), then select “New Folder.” Name the folder with your film’s name and your name, like this: Feedback - Fred scenes.
7. Select the File menu again, then select “New Finder Window.” Navigate to the thumb drive.
8. Drag your scenes from the thumb drive to the new folder you created.
9. Eject the thumb drive.
10. Remove the thumb drive from the USB port and return it to its home so that someone else can use it.
11. Bring your mouse to the bottom of the screen so the app drawer appears. Click on the iMovie icon to run iMovie.
12. Select the File menu (top of the screen), then select “New Project…”
13. In the window that appears, be sure that “No Theme” is selected. Where it says Name, you need the movie title and Scene number. Example: Feedback Scene 4. Make sure the Aspect Ratio is set to Widescreen. Make sure the Frame Rate is set to 30 fps. Make sure the box next to “Automatically add” is NOT checked. Finally, click “Create.”
14. Select the File menu (top of the screen), then hover your mouse over “Import.” Select “Movies…”
15. Navigate to the folder you created in Step 6.
16. Select the video clips for your scenes. You can click on the first one, hold down the SHIFT key, then click on the last one.
17. Select “Create New Event,” then type the name of your movie and your name. Example: Feedback - Fred scenes
18. Click “Import.” Then you get to wait for a few minutes. Your scenes should show up in the top window of iMovie. Now, you're finally ready to start editing!
Select the scene you want to edit first. Command-click (press and hold the COMMAND key, then click) it to select the entire clip. You'll know the entire clip is selected because all of it is outlined in yellow.
Drag the selected clip to the dotted boxes in the bottom window.
Control-click (press and hold the CONTROL key, then click) on the project clip -- the one you just dragged into the bottom window. A menu appears; select "Detach Audio."
Click on the purple audio waveform that appears under the video to select it. Hit the DELETE key on the keyboard to remove the audio.
To trim the beginning of the clip: Hover over the clip to put the playhead where want to cut it, then control-click. In the menu that appears, select "Split Clip."
Now you have two clips in your project. Click the one you want to get rid of, then press the DELETE key to delete it.
Open a Finder window and navigate to your music and sound effect files.
Drag the music into the bottom window.
