As promised, your Straight Superior rating at LGPE has earned you a trip to Dairy Queen! We will make our DQ trip on Friday, April 16. Meet outside the Band Room at 6:30 p.m. Everyone will ride the bus to the DQ in Millen. We will return to SCHS around 8:30 p.m. Choose your Blizzard Treat here: https://forms.gle/F2Zu5arAeLwRoLEC6
This trip is FREE for all band members who performed with us at LGPE.
Color Guard Auditions will be April 12, 13, 14, and 15, after school from 3:30 until 5:00 p.m. in the SCHS Gym.
Our "Spring Training" will be a little different this year. Instead of "Rookie Spring Training," we are doing May marching band rehearsals for everyone. SCGMB ("Screven County Gamecock Marching Band") Spring Training will be on May 11, 13, 18, and 20 (Tuesdays and Thursdays) after school until 5:00 p.m.
One of my favorite composers is Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990). He was the first American-born conductor to serve as music director and conductor of a major U.S. orchestra (specifically, the New York Philharmonic). As a composer, he wrote music for ballet and opera, along with various chamber ensembles, and the symphony orchestra. However, he is probably most known for his music written for musical theatre. The music of West Side Story is probably his most popular. The show premiered on Broadway in 1957 and later was made into a feature film. Here, the University of Michigan Symphony Band performs a suite based on the music from the show.
DURING BAND CLASS: Masks are required as you enter the band area, while you are in the instrument storage room (lockers), and at the start of band class. Go directly to your assigned seat in class. Obviously, you will need to remove your mask in order to play (except percussion). Put your mask back on if another section is working. Masks must be put on when we pack up at the end of class.
AFTER SCHOOL: Just like during band camp, masks should be worn at the start of rehearsal, during transitions, and at dismissal. Now that we are starting our regular after-school routine, we will not be doing screening/temperature checks before practice. Please stay home if you are sick. Please go home if you get sick during the school day.
