WEEK OF AUGUST 9
Attendance at after-school marching band rehearsals is super important and must be a priority if we are to reach our goals of having a Superior season. Therefore:
Please do everything you can to be at marching band rehearsal. Plan your doctor appointments on days we do not have rehearsal when at all possible. I know you can do this, because *I* do it, and my family does it.
In the event you must miss a rehearsal, a written excuse must be provided by a parent or guardian (not by the student) by email, Remind message, or text to the band hotline. I will also accept a recorded voicemail on the band hotline. Whenever possible, this should be done BEFORE the rehearsal.
If you stay home because you are sick, or if you go home in the middle of the day because you are sick, I still must have a written excuse, same as above.
Notify Mr. Carter of the absence BEFORE rehearsal.
Any absence for which there is no written excuse will be marked as unexcused.
EXCEPTION: If your absence/tardy is because of detention, tutoring, or a school sports or club event, a written excuse from the student is acceptable.
For each unexcused absence, the student will serve a one-game suspension. During this suspension, the student will:
attend the performance on time and in uniform
assist with loading, unloading, and carrying equipment
serve in whatever capacity needed by the staff
stand on the sideline during the halftime performance
remain in the band bleachers during the 3rd quarter
Failure to complete the suspension will result in removal from the program. Students who are removed from the program due to absences will not receive any refunds.
WRITTEN EXCUSES MAY BE SENT ONE OF THE FOLLOWING WAYS:

MONDAY is the last chance for me to be able to return shoes that don't fit. Otherwise, you will have to figure something out on your own.
We sure could use a few more picture orders! Bring yours to school Monday. Make checks payable to Prestige Digital Imaging.
Each item comes from a different vendor, and they all have different turn-around times. Most items will arrive over the next two weeks.
You need a pair of khaki shorts for the first few football games! Don't wait until the last minute to get this taken care of. Our first game is Friday, August 20.
Band Booster meetings the first TUESDAY of every month, starting at 6:00 p.m. Meetings are open to all band parents, grandparents, and other adult family members who are interested in supporting the band program. Our booster program needs a restart after taking a year off. I hope you will join us. Our next meeting is September 7 at 6 p.m. in the Band Room.

Mrs. O is having a Beginning Band Jumpstart Day on Saturday, August 14. New 6th grade band members will get their instruments that day, and each section will have an college student to help them learn how to put the instruments together, care for the instrument, and make the all-important first sound. We need some high school students to help. Sign up above.
Our first football game is next Friday, August 20. Students will wear khaki shorts and black performance shoes. Wind and percussion players will wear red UA shirts; guard will wear their monogram t-shirts.
We have 23 band members signed up to attend Carolina Band Day at USC on September 4. It's going to be a ton of fun! More details are coming soon, but for now, know that it is an all-day event.
