Historical Coil Pot

Process:

This assignment was to find an ancient art piece that inspires you. The subject of my creation is just a simple, beautiful, antique pot with unique flowers. My work was made by first making the cylinder stand and the base for the pot. I made the cylinder like stand for the pot by using long coils and using slip to place them on. Then later I made the top pot part of this piece by using a long coil and slowly making it go outward. Then I put together the top and the base. Then lastly I made three flowers and had to gently place them onto the top part of my artwork.

I chose to create this specific artwork because it stood out to me of how simple but unique it is. I also liked the unique flowers that were placed on this piece. When I was choosing which artwork I was basing mine off of the one I chose had multiple ancient designs but I decided to make mine a lot simpler. By the color and shape being more simple it helps the flowers to stand out more. It's arranged by the thin base then a slim coil pot smaller than the top coil pot and it spreads outward. How my project evolved was at first it wasn't very smooth so I went back and made sure it was the texture that I liked. I revised my artwork by fixing the flowers. I remade each flower about 2-3 times because I wasn't satisfied with how they turned out. So I used my own technique when I made them and finally they came out the way I wanted them to.

The meaning behind my artwork is just making simple but natural beauty stand out. In most of my artwork I have nature incorporated in some way. How my artwork relates to my life is I include nature because I'm just in love with and fascinated with it. So I wanted to incorporate the simple but natural flowers in this piece. What I'm most proud of in my artwork is the flowers. The flowers look exactly how I wanted them to look. I struggled with smoothing out the coils so there were no bumps. But I overcome these struggles by taking my time and going back to fix any spots I might of missed. My artwork could be stronger if I took my time with making sure the top was not crooked, but I'm actually liking the look of it. It gives my artwork a more antique look to it which I like.
