Beautiful Oops

(The small pictures are at the top & big pictures are at the bottom)

For this project we had to make an ink dot and had to turn it into something creative. The materials I used were colored pencils. I created a beak at first and then the beak looked long so I turned it into a toucan. And since it was a toucan I ended up adding leaves into the background and the toucan on a tree branch in the jungle. The leaves seemed more like leaves from Maine at first so I added cuts and dents to them and made them all green so it looked more like the jungle or tropical leaves.

My favorite part about this piece is how the toucan stands out and the background supports it. What I mean by this is the background gives a setting of a tropical area or jungle but doesn't take away from the toucan it just makes the toucan look better. I also really like the shadows that I added under the leaves because it gives more detail and more of a realistic vibe to the artwork. I was inspired by my love for nature, as I will say a lot. Nature has always been a huge part of my life so I wanted to create an art piece that has nature.

One thing I wish I could've worked on more is adding more detail. Detail to the feathers on the toucan and detail on the tree like maybe adding bugs. I also wish I could've made the leaves different shades of green to make it have more of a nature theme. I also wish the little bug near the toucans beak stood out more but thats okay because I really love how the toucan turned out. Overall, this was a very fun project and I really love how we had the freedom to turn the dot into anything.
