Concentration #2

This assignment was to stick to your concentration, mine is plants, and create a new, unique piece of artwork. The subject of my creation is simple flowers living in harmony. My work was made by first by flipping through wallpaper books choosing different wallpaper colors and textures that I liked. I then started to cut out the thicker, fabric wallpaper to create different flowers and bent the flowers to give them more shape. I glued these flowers and vines onto a texture wallpaper background which was then wrapped onto a piece of this thick board. I had to cut the board down so it would match the large size of the wallpaper that the flowers and vines were sitting on. I glued everything together using hot glue and wrapped the wallpaper around the corners of the board so it was completely covered.

I chose to create this specific artwork because I like flowers and how unique they are. It's easy to manipulate flowers so I decided to make them look simple with gentle looking colors. It’s arranged by having random flowers laid around the board, some are sticking up others are laid flat. Then I went in and added vines using regular wallpaper to fill in some of the blank and empty space around the flowers. How my project evolved was I kept changing the colors and positions of the flowers. At first I was going to make the flowers thick with lots of petals but I decided I liked the simple look with the flowers spread out so I chose that instead. I revised my artwork by going in and making sure there were no glue marks sticking out. I also added more vines into the empty space if I felt like something was missing.

The meaning behind my artwork is gentle flowers sitting in peace. Flowers are so unique and beautiful that it makes it easier and fun to be creative with them. How my artwork relates to my life is because I love nature, especially flowers. I also really like the simple things in life so I wanted to capture something like that in this art piece. What I'm most proud of in my artwork is the colors and how they all go so well together. I struggled with cutting the flower petals out and making sure they were the correct shapes. But I overcome these struggles by realizing that I could peel the wallpaper out of the book and trace petal shapes with a marker. This way the petals were the correct shape and weren't too thick to cut. My artwork could be stronger if I added more smaller details and texture. But overall, I really love the colors and simplicity of this piece.
