This assignment was to stick to your concentration and create a creative art piece. Since my creation is plants, I decided to create two flowers in a small flower pot. The subject of my creation is two flowers sitting peacefully in a flower pot. My work was made by first cutting out petals using wallpaper for the bigger flower and hot gluing them together. I then cut out petals using wallpaper to create the smaller flower. I added wire to the ends of the flower to create the stems and leaf. I sculpted a tiny flower pot using clay. Once the flower pot was dry I put three coats of underglaze on it and let each layer dry. Once it was dry I went in with a tiny needle tool to sgraffito my art piece. I created small flowers and stems all over the outside of the flower pot. I then decided to add text that says, "PEACE AND LOVE" to the rim of the flower pot. Once I put the pot in the kiln and eventually everything is completed I glued the flower's into the flower pot.
I chose to create this specific artwork because I thought small flowers in a small flower pot that has more detail than my last creation would be more fun. It’s arranged by have one flower shorter and one smaller than the other sitting bent over in the flower pot. How my project evolved was at first I was going to created just one flower but eventually I decided to create another one to place in the flower pot. I also decided to sgraffito my flower pot instead of using the underglaze crayons. I liked the more textured and detailed look the sgraffito gives. I revised my artwork by cleaning up the sgraffito marks and touching up glaze chips when too much glaze was accidentally chipped off in the sgraffito process.
The meaning behind my artwork is to show peace and love towards plants. How my artwork relates to my life is because I love the environment and want to spread awareness of how we need to take care of it. What I'm most proud of in my artwork is the cute little flower pot. I liked the small text I added to the rim of the flower pot towards the end of my working process. I struggled with using the underglaze crayons. But I overcome these struggles because I realized you don't use the underglaze crayons until the piece has been put into the kiln. So I decided to sgraffito instead so not only would it have more detail but it would also be done on time. My artwork could be stronger if I maybe added even more flowers to the flower pot. But overall, I really like the simplicity of this piece, it isn't complicated with too much color and it's easy to look at every detail.
