Circle Project

This assignment was to create a design using any materials you'd like but a circle has to be included in your work. The subject of my creation is flowers floating in the water surrounded by lily pads. The circles are included in the middle of my flower. My work was made by first layering up the background with paint and then in order to make it look like impressionism I kept adding layers to the paint in the background and lily pads. For the flowers I used sort of a different technique and I kept building up colors but in a more smooth way.

I chose to create this specific artwork because I love nature and impressionism so I figured I'd combine them and this was what I got as the result of that. It’s arranged by flowers in the middle so you can see the circles and also some going off to the side and lily pads going off to the side in order to give it a good composition and balance out where they are placed. How my project evolved was at first I did a layer of blue paint in the background carefully going around my sketches that I made where the flowers and lily pads would be placed. Then I added different shades of blue to the background using acrylic paint and I did the same with certain colors for each part of my project. I revised my artwork by making it so that there was actual paint sticking up off the canvas so it would give it more texture.

The meaning behind my artwork is just a simple, peaceful look at nature. How my artwork relates to my life is because I love nature it just fascinates me so much. What I'm most proud of in my artwork is how well the background came out and looks like impressionism. I struggled with making the flowers look like impressionism so my technique for them was a little different. But I overcome these struggles by making the flowers look a little smoother and used bright colors to make them stand out on the background. My artwork could be stronger if I took my time to make the flowers look more like impressionism but I really love the look of my artwork in the end.
