Natural Cave
8" x 5"
In my art, you can clearly see light shining through a cave revealing water flowing down and around mossy rocks. The story told is light is shining through a hole above a cave that's full of hidden life. Once the sun shines light through the cave it reveals all the hidden beauty beneath. I chose to make this because I love working with pieces that have water involved so I wanted to try and paint water flowing. I also really love the perspective of the inside of a cave surrounded by nature that's untouched by humans. This relates to my life because I find peace and happiness in places just like this. Being surrounded by nature makes me feel at peace so I thought a cave is a great way to represent this. I also added light because whenever there is light shining through the windows of my house it gives me a warm, happy feeling. So by having light reveal the cave I wanted it to give off the same idea.
My work was made by creating a border using animal printed duct tape. I used this so this piece would have a thicker border. I went in and built up the color of the rocks with moss with acrylic paint. I continued to change the color until it was green enough since at first, it was more grey and black. Then I added moss patches to add life. Using a smaller brush I went in with shades of blue and added water flowing around the rocks. I added a white and gold light shining down through the hole above. I went back in with different sized brushes and added different strokes to the piece to give it more value. I added white around the rocks to have movement.
The process of creating my art had a lot of color changing. My project evolved because I kept adding in color to add more contrast and texture to my work. I added shadows and highlights to the water to make it look like it's flowing. I also added shadows and highlights to the rocks to make them look more realistic. I did this by adding in darker shades of green and lights shades of green on top of that. My next steps could be to work on making my work more realistic. I also want to start incorporating more insects or animals into my work so there is more life. This is because most of the beauty on this earth are amongst the animals so I'd like to add this to my work.
