2D Design Midterm Project- Circle Template

(The small pictures are at the top & big pictures are at the bottom)

This assignment was to take this blank piece of paper with circles on it and turn it into something creative with the material of our choice. I chose to use watercolor in order for it to have this soft, tie-dyed, cloud-like look. The subject of my creation is flowers thriving harmoniously. The thriving is shown through the connection between the flowers and the very green grass, stems, and leaves. Harmoniously is represented by the soft colors and patterns I made with the watercolor because to me it seems peaceful and gentle with the flowers all connected. My work was made by first brainstorming. All of my ideas included some form of nature in it. At first, I was going to do a landscape and then do the circles different colors in and out of the mountains. But then I realized the flowers made a small gap in between each and it reminded me of the stem of a flower so I made three flowers. I sketched the flowers and then began painting. I slowly built up the colors by adding more pinks, purples, and different shades of green to the grass, leaves, and stems.

I chose to create this specific artwork because I love nature and I always try to incorporate nature into my work. It’s arranged by the flowers stems are made up of the small gaps between the circles and all have leaves inside the circles connecting each. The flowers are growing up and then I added green grass to the ground. How my project evolved was I kept adding layers of watercolor. One layer was too light, but when I added different shades of that same color it gave it more beautiful, unique details. I revised my artwork by asking my peers what I could add and eventually I added more details to the leaves. I not only added different shades of green to the leaves but I also added a yellow-brown in between one of the layers to give it more of a soft green look underneath.

The meaning behind my artwork is that with care flowers can thrive and grow in our word with grace and peace. How my artwork relates to my life is because I love nature and as soon as the idea to turn these circles into flowers popped into my head I got excited and started right away. What I'm most proud of in my artwork is the textured look I gave this project. This painting style reminds me of a soft Claude Monet Impressionism style but in a unique way. I struggled with building up colors and details at first. But I overcome these struggles by knowing that there are no mistakes in art and I kept going and building up colors until it was the look I desired. My artwork could be stronger if I went in and added small details with pens and if I added more of that tie-dyed texture look to the middle of the background. Overall, I really like the soft look the watercolor gave to this piece and it is a new style I am going to try again in the future.
