Stars and Stripes

(The small pictures are at the top & big pictures are at the bottom)

This assignment was to create a project that portrays unity, red, white, blue, black, stars, stripes, and lines. Those specific traits were chosen based on the American flag. The subject of my creation is a mountain. My work was made by first drawing a quick sketch on canvas of the placement my art work would be in. I then went in and decided where the colors would be placed. Once I had the colors on my canvas I went in and did the background first, making sure to paint on plenty of coats so it is a solid color. I then went in and did the mountain and stars and did the same technique, multiple layers, to get my desired color. Lastly, I went in and added the trees at the bottom and the lack outline.

I chose to create this specific artwork because I love the environment so I wanted to create an art piece that addresses the environment and the issues that have been happening. It’s arranged by the mountain being in the center and the star on the top of the mountain and sky. I put the trees at the bottom as though it were a forest and represents unity since the trees are all together. How my project evolved was I had to do multiple layers over time in order to build up the color. I revised my artwork by going back in and making sure all of the colors were solid and I went back over the black outline a couple of times.

The meaning behind my artwork is the mountain and trees represent nature. The trees being unity and overall how we need to address the environmental issues. How my artwork relates to my life is by I love the environment. What I'm most proud of in my artwork is how well the black makes the mountain and star stands out and how I managed to do so many coats to make my colors solid. As I've mentioned I struggled with those solid colors at first. But I overcome these struggles by letting each coat dry and then painting another one until I liked the result. My artwork could be stronger if I took my time with the outline. But overall, I really love how this piece turned out.
