Emotion Designs

(The small pictures are at the top & big pictures are at the bottom)

This assignment was to create an emotion through designs and patterns. The emotion of my creation is free. I chose this because I like the swirls idea, which I was inspired by the wind. My work was made by first taking water colors, warm colors, and making swirls on a blank piece of paper. Once this dried I then went in and outlined all the swirls with a black pen. Once all of the swirls were outlined I then went in and added small designs to add more value. Most of these designs were either smaller swirls, lines, or sharp triangles. The designs took a long time and was a very tedious task but in the end it was worth it because it really added the perfect touch to the project.

I chose to create this specific artwork because I love the emotion free. When I picture free I picture the wind blowing air into swirls. It’s arranged by larger colorful swirls and then those are surrounded by smaller black swirl designs and patterns all throughout to fill all of the white space. How my project evolved was at first I was going to make it all colorful but then I thought the swirls would stand out more if I added black designs in the white space. Then eventually I just kept building up the swirls and going with my instinct of where to place them. I revised my artwork by going back in and making sure all of the white space is covered with swirls and patterns.

The meaning behind my artwork is freedom and the swirls of the wind. I find the wind and swirls seems to represent freedom because swirls are free to do in any direction and flow anywhere. How my artwork relates to my life is by I think being and feeling free is a very important factor in life. It helps you relax and lead to great things. So I wanted to create a positive, free feeling piece of art. What I'm most proud of in my artwork is how I was patient and added all of the small black designs throughout the white space. I struggled with doing a lot of black designs in one sitting. But I overcome these struggles by taking brakes every now and then that way I could re focus on my work and finish it with my best effort. My artwork could be stronger if I went in and added even more designs and darken some areas with the pen. I could also brighten the colors. Overall, I really love how this piece came out and expressed the emotion of feeling free. It took me a while but all the effort was worth it in the end.
