Kerry Pearson

Pearson was a high school student at MHS from 1974-78. He was a three-sport letterwinner his sophomore, junior and senior years of high school. During his senior year Pearson was first in pass receptions, first in interceptions, first in kickoff returns and second in punt returns and scoring. The team held the ESD Conference record of six wins and three losses, which was the best finish since 1969. Pearson was also named to the South Dakota Sportswriters All-State Class A football team, the Sioux Falls Argus Leader 11-man All-State football team as well as the All American High School football squad. As a letterwinner in track, he was active in the triple jump, long jump, high jump, mile relay and 880-yard relay. He placed first in nine long jump events his senior year and first in six triple jump events. During his senior basketball career, Pearson held ESD stats with second place in scoring (19.8 points on the average). He was also named to the South Dakota Sportswriters Association All-State Class A first team. During Pearson's junior year, he held second place in ESD scoring, was named to the Class A All-State Team and was a valuable member of the MHS track team. Pearson was a member of the "M" Club, FBLA, National Honor Society from 1976-1978, and Who's Who in High School Athletes in 1977, the first time in a 12-year history that honor was awarded to a junior. Pearson was a Boys State member, the KJAM Outstanding Athlete in 1977 and 1978, received the Vidal Leadership Award in 1978, received appointments to West Point and the Air Force Academy and was given MHS Most Valuable Athlete Award in 1977 and 1978.
