Carol 'Kappenman' Shaver

Carol (Kappenman) Shaver graduated from MHS in 1978 after becoming the school's first three-sport female letterwinner as a standout in basketball, gymnastics and track. She was active in M-Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and chorus. In gymnastics, Shaver participated in the 1977 State High School Gymnastics Meet, performing on the uneven bars. A year later, in her senior year, she completed a four-year letter in the sport. She was a three-time letterwinner in basketball. But, it was in track where Shaver separated herself from other girl athletes. She was part of three school records while in high school — the 100-meter hurdles, 14.8 seconds; 400-meter relay, 51.0; and the 800-meter relay, 1:48.1. Shaver won first place in the State A Meet in the 100-meter high hurdles in 1978. She was girls' track's most valuable athlete three straight seasons, 1976-78. She is the current record-holder in the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter relay. Shaver has continued her contribution to MHS athletics by coaching on the MHS-MMS staff. She former head coach in gymnastics and former an assistant cross country and track-and-field coach at MHS.
