Bob Rumrill

Rumrill is a graduate of the Madison High School class of 1955. He was active in football, basketball and track & field during all four years of high school. He earned three letters in basketball, two in football and two in track & field. He was team captain in basketball and football during his senior year and an All-State basketball player his senior year. Rumrill was 12th in the ESD basketball scoring as a junior and 6th in scoring his senior year with a 15.6 ppg. He also led the ESD in field goals his senior year. The teams that Rumrill played on tied for second place in the ESD in football and then once again tied for second place in the ESD in basketball. The track & field team that Rumrill was a member of earned the ESD championship title. After high school, Rumrill went on to play football and basketball at General Beadle State Teachers College for four years and ran on the track & field team for two years. Rumrill went on to coach for 33 years -- nine years in South Dakota, two years in Minnesota and 22 years in Colorado. He has coached football, basketball and track with his main emphasis on football. As his coaching career progressed, Rumrill earned honors at Merino High School in Merino, Colo., as the 1971 State Runner-up Football Team; 1972 State Champion Football Team and the 1972 Consolation Champions, at the State Basketball Tournament. At Valley High School in Gilcrest, Colo., his teams earned the 1978 and 1982 State Football Runner-up honors. He coached four state champion shot putters at Valley High School. Among Rumrill's memories are scoring the first two points in varsity basketball in Aberdeen as a freshman and also playing on various teams during 1954-55 at MHS and earning the ESD honors during his high school career. Another memory includes placing 5th in the 440 dash and running on the mile relay team that placed second at the conference meet which wasn't bad as Madison was by far the smallest school in the ESD.
