Doug Sims

After spending two years in Montrose, Doug started his 40 year career in Madison in 1975 and quickly started coaching girl’s tennis and by 1977 he became the head Girls Basketball and head Boys Tennis coach. Doug took the girls basketball team to the State Tournament twice and in 1987 they took 3rd place and finished the year with a 23-2 record. Doug was the assistant boys basketball coach for 10 years and the head coach for 5 years and helped the 1994 team to a 3rd place finish. Doug was the head boy’s tennis coach until 2015 and during those 38 years Doug’s 2006 team placed 6th in the State (only one class of tennis is SD) and Doug was named Coach of the Year. His 2006 and 2014 teams were awarded the Team Sportsmanship Award and in 2016 the South Dakota Tennis Association awarded Doug with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Doug also coached middle school basketball and gymnastics. Doug and Delora have two children; Steve (Cami) w/their children; Eleni, Elijah, Ethan, and Silas and Theresa (Kelly Conrad) w/their children; Thomas, Isaac, Sam, and Will.
