Kelly Merager

An all-around athlete that was a 3-Sport letter winner his sophomore, junior, and senior years. Earned All-Conference in football and basketball and earned honorable mention All-State QB and Elite 45 football team. Led the Bulldogs to their best football season since 1981 and a playoff berth in 1989. Was voted MVP for football and basketball his senior year. Kelly enrolled at Black Hills State University as a walk-on for the football team only to become one of the all-time offensive leaders in school history. Upon completion of his college career, Kelly started a total of 35 games for the Yellow Jackets and held 13 individual offensive records. He still holds 9 individual and is a part of 6 offensive team records. Some of those include 11,100 career passing yards, single game TD passes at 8, 34 TD’s in a season, and 97 career TD passes. Kelly was a two-time South Dakota Intercollegiate Conference Most Valuable Offensive Player of the Year and was recognized as the 2nd Team All-American QB in 1994. In addition, Kelly played professional football for the Stockholm Nordic Vikings in the American Football League of Europe in Stockholm, Sweden in 1995. He led the Vikings to the A.F.L.E. championship with a championship game performance that included 400+ total yards and 6 TD passes.
