James will go down as one of the best golfers (if not THE best) to ever come out of Madison High School. James burst onto the scene as a 7th grader when he qualified for the state tournament – but that was just the beginning. James would go on to qualify for the state tournament for 6 straight years and was a 5 time state medalist. He placed 19th as an8th grader, 2nd his freshman year, and 3rd as a sophomore. He followed that up with two Individual Class A State Championships in his Junior and Senior seasons. James was 6-time letter winner in golf at MHS and was named Team MVP for 3 straight years.
Not only did James have individual success, but he also guided his team to success – helping Madison High School to its first ever State A Team Championship in 2001. They would follow that up with a 2nd place finish in 2002 and State A Team Championship in 2003 and 2004. That 2004 team not only won the State Championship but swept the top four spots in the individual standings.
James went on to play golf at SDSU for 3 years. Since college, he has gone on to win every men’s individual open in South Dakota. He is working part time at pizza ranch and part time at the John Green art gallery in Madison. This summer he will be playing a full schedule on the Dakotas Tour – a 19 event professional golf tour played in the Midwest states of Minnesota, Iowa, North and South Dakota.
