Bud Postma

Bud started his teaching and coaching career at Madison High School in 1986. As a Coach, Bud Postma served as a head wrestling coach, head boys golf coach and head girls golf coach, along with being an assistant for both football and wrestling through the years. In 7 years as the Head wrestling coach, Postma accrued a career record of 65-44-4. In those years, Bud coached 30 wrestlers who placed in the State Tournament, 10 wrestlers who reached the finals, and 4 State Champions. As the MHS golf coach, Bud led the Bulldogs boys to their first ever SD State Golf Championship in 2001. They would follow that up with team titles in 2003 and 2004 with a 2nd place finish in 2002. The 2004 team not only won the State Championship, but also swept the top four spots in the individual standings. Bud also served as the MHS Athletic Director from 2005-2018. During Bud’s 13 years at the helm, Madison High School won an amazing 21 team championships and had many other 2nd and 3rd place finishes. However, Postma’s crowning achievement would probably have to be his involvement in the planning, fund raising, and building of the MHS athletic wing that opened in the fall of 2014. Because of Bud’s hard work and vision, Madison High School now has one of the most beautiful, state-of-the-art athletic facilities in the state – in any class.
