Bob VanDeest

VanDeest attended MS from 1971-1975. During his high school career, He was a three-year letter winner in cross-country and track. He as also a two-year starter on the boys basketball team. IN his senior year, he earned the KJAM Outstanding athlete in basketball as was as the honor of Boys Basketball MVP. As a senior, he and his teammates ended the regular season with a record of 10-5, and then went on to win the Section V championship and were consolation champions at the State A Tournament. VanDeest was name to the Class A All-State 1st Team while averaging 17 points and 7 rebounds per game. During his senior year in track, he was part of the state champion two-mile relay team along with Larry Beesley, Brice Franken, and Bruce Keppen. He was also part of the thrid place medley relay team and also rand the 440 yard run. As a senior he finished 4th in the Region V AA meet, 9th in the ESD and 3rd in the Flandreau Inviatational. VanDeest was also a member of the "M" Club, Key Club, FCA, was an alternate for Boys State and a candidate for homecoming king. While attending Dakota State University, he was a member of the baskeball and track teams.
