SAFE, HAPPY, LEARNING, RESPECTFUL
We have begun to explore Zoo animals over in the ocean room....
🐵🐯🦓🐼🐊🦁🐻🐍🐘🦍🦏
The children have expressed lots of interest in different animals that live in 'Enclosures' and we have begun to explore what kind, what size, what type, indoor or outdoor, hot or cold types of habitats that they live in.
We have created our own zoo within the room and have started adding aspects of different enclosures in this.....
We are building our understanding of Planet Earth and where it sits in the Solar System. This is Earth complete with beaches and sea.
Our nursery resources support our learning, including making stars and planets of our own.
We love drawing pictures of the planets on BIG pieces of paper, today we worked out that we could add some stars by using the playdough cutter as a template.
Our drawings are showing more detail and we are excited when we can see our drawings getting even better. Mrs Webb was very interested in what we drew.
"These are great drawings, look at the great planet you have drawn and the sun and stars, well done!" Mrs Webb
The children thought Mrs Webb could help us with other questions we have about our Solar System.
"How many gas planets are there Mrs Webb?"
Let's find out on the computer . . .
. . . thanks Mrs Webb, we now know there are 4 and we know which ones they are.
Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune and Uranus.
Next week we will continue learning about space as the children want to make their own rocket! This will include some great opportunities for shape and colour learning, how to make a rocket, where we can fly to and of course, lots of fun and chatting while we are creative!
Can you help . . . ?
We would love any recycling you have so we can make our junk model rockets. Please bring any into nursery and we will find a place on our rocket building work shop to use them!
Many thanks in advance.
Thank you if you have returned your 'space learning feed back form'. We have loved seeing what your child is telling you at home and they will have a chance to share this in nursery too. They have impressed us all with their continuing interest and learning this term.
Still time for forms to come back.
We have read lots of animals stories, 'The tiger who came to tea', 'The pig in the pond', 'Giraffes can't dance', 'Monkey puzzle' and so many more....
One of our favourites is a story called 'Paper Dolls" in which we could spot animals like a crocodile and a tiger, we loved the crocodile's big snappy teeth, and thought the little girl's tiger slippers were pretty cool too.
We also extended our learning by exploring the SIZE of animals. We used books and Google to find out some animal average sizes and then measured to see if they were bigger or smaller than us!
We also had a vote as to which animals we thought were biggest and smallest!
One discussion led to us exploring wether a Giraffe or a T-rex is bigger?
🦒 vs 🦖
We discovered our answer ....... which do you think????
....doing our research.
we all recognised the potato and some of us knew the sweet potato because it is a different shape. When we peeled both we spotted that they were different colours.
we also cut the lemon and lime in half to see what it looked like
the children thought there would be juice inside so we gave it a squeeze and out came the juice!
then we tasted the lemon with some mixed reactions as you can see from the faces!!!
Out in our great outdoors, We are always learning! We are lucky to have such amazing outdoor space which allows us to use and extend our imagination, climb, balance, be patient in line, control our body, build our equipment, play- spin- kick and balance a ball, gather sticks to build a tunnel, share, take turns and be friends!!!
We love being outdoors!
Our amazing sign writer!
"there's nothing in it.....it's empty"
some of the things we can do so we can put a pompom in the jar...
..not even a week on and our jar is filling up nicely with kindness.
A little bit of digging....
....as we continue to create bedding areas for plants
Preparing more boxes which we use as a base for the bedding area.....
.....but which are also good fun to play in before we squash them!
Mrs Christie had to use all of her puff to blow up the inflatable chair!
This is going to make a nice addition to our carpeted chill out area.
