SAFE, HAPPY, LEARNING, RESPECTFUL
What we did:
We looked for wildlife - we saw some frogs.
We used natural resources to make art.
Problem solving team games.
The leader chose 7 natural items and we had to go and hunt to find them.
What we liked the most:
I really liked that there were so many different colours from the leaves, twigs etc.
It was really fun and I hope we can do it again next year.
This week we are putting out Key Assessment Task home. Please return these as soon as possible. Do not take the maths out of the polly pocket as it all goes in the Profile which we keep in school - we need it all together.
We learnt how to take a whole shape, and divide it into smaller, equal parts. We changed this square into a whole with 32 equal parts by continuing to half each part.
We explored equal and unequal parts. Equal = the same/identical. Unequal = not even/ not equal/ not the same.
We could choose our own 'Challenge questions' which were harder questions to try.
We learnt to use bar models to find fractions of amounts.
We tried to use our knowledge of fractions to identify where each one would be on a number line.
What we did:
Camouflage game: use the environment to make it hard to find us. We hid behind trees, bushes etc.
Guess my tree: Pairs game. Player 1 wears a blindfold. Player 2 guides them to a tree. Player 1 smells and feels the tree. Player 2 guides them away. Player 1 takes off their blindfold and guesses which tree from the information that they gathered.
Necklace making: Off cuts of wood that we drew animals on and wrote our name.
Snack in the woods. We operated under the idea of 'Leave no trace' which means we tidied everything so that when we left, no-one would have any way of knowing we were there.
Experts told us which plants/leaves were edible. Some tasted like apple skins!
We saw small frogs, animal eggs, a squirrel, birds, the spot where a deer had slept and a newt.
Guess the object: Paul and Ealanor took a bag of animal based things: stag antler, pheasant egg, lichen, skull of a fox, a big pine cone, a bird's nest and deer fur.
Our favourites: We voted:
Guess my tree: 3
Eating the leaves: 2
Necklace making: 2
Camouflage game: 13
Finding interesting things: 1
Have a look at what we have planned for Term 4
We had a very interesting maths starter. When is the NEXT date where....
For example, 1st December 2020 = 1.12.20
For example, 20th of October 2008 = 20.10.08
We were learning about 2D and 3D shape properties this week with Mrs McAra. We had a lot of fun and took part in good maths discussion about the shape and how to make them. Have a look at some of our shapes below: can you name them all?
