SAFE, HAPPY, LEARNING, RESPECTFUL
This term P5 have been learning all about Italy. Over the last couple of weeks they have been working in trios, researching a small Italy topic. These topics were:
Landmarks (The Trevi Fountain, The Pantheon, The Colosseum and The Leaning Tower of Pisa)
Famous Italians (Enzo Ferrari and Valentino Rossi)
Football in Italy
Food and Drink of Italy
Major Italian cities (Milan, Venice and Rome)
Italian Cars
They used the class Chromebooks to gather information, change it into their own words then displayed their facts on information posters. Finally each group shared their research with the class with a short presentation. P5 did a super job as you can see from the posters!
P5 really enjoyed taking part in the sponsored cycle planned by Mrs McKenzie and P6/5 yesterday.
They cycled and scooted a combined distance of 20.4miles!!!
A big thanks to the P7 helpers, Mrs McKenzie for organising and all the people who sponsored them.
A polite reminder to get sponsor money into school ASAP as they deadline for our MFR Competition is next Wednesday!
This week we enjoyed some imaginative story writing. We looked at lots of alien pictures and worked together as a class to write about one together. Then, we picked our favourite alien to write about independently!
We had 3 writing targets:
Use adjectives to describe our main character.
Use adjectives to describe the setting.
Write in full sentences with capital letters & appropriate punctuation.
Our stories are super and we worked really hard!
Mental Maths
This week for mental maths we enjoyed a Dice Roll. On dice we wrote different instructions such as +9, -12 or x10. Then we selected a starting number. With each roll of the dice we had to add/subtract or times. This meant our number got bigger or smaller each time!
Italy
As part of our topic learning, P5 have been looking at Italy. We used Atlases to locate Italy on a world map and learnt it's on the continent of Europe.
We have also learnt:
The capital city is Rome.
The flag is called il Tricolore made up of 3 vertical stripes of green, white and red. We even made some mini flags!
Popular food & drink include lots of meat, pizza, pasta, coffee and gelato.
We are also continuing to learn all about popular landmarks such as the Colosseum!
Please find the Primary 5 termly organiser attached on the left.
P5 created some impressive 3D cities last week which are looking fantastic on our art wall!
First they had to carefully colour then cut out the cityscape before folding and gluing it carefully to give a 3D effect.
You can see a few of the finished products in the pictures!
