SAFE, HAPPY, LEARNING, RESPECTFUL
Hello and welcome to our Primary One class Blog. On here we shall share information and photographs about what we have been learning in class. These could be used as a family talking point around what has been happening in school. We hope you enjoy looking through our blog and please remember if you have any questions please get in touch with us.

A wee selection of photos from the end of this week in P1. We are always so busy we forget to get photos!
We had lots of fun in our Kodaly singing session today. We sang a song about birthdays and Jack Be Nimble. I wonder if anyone can remember them to share at home? We have trying so hard to be helpful to each other. Some children were having great fun helping each other balance and bounce on the space hoppers in our garden. We were also co-operating with our partners to roll, thrown and catch a ball.
P1 love taking part in Relax Kids activities! When I told the children we were going to do massage with a partner this afternoon they gave a big cheer! We used the story of Cinderella for our massage today. We always ask our partner's permission first, use gentle hands on heads, shoulders, backs and arms only. We listen to and respect what our partner says and remember to say thank you at the end. We also relaxed with a Smiling Star story and focused on our breath after gym.
Some of our outdoor learning this week...
Mark making and creating pictures with chalk.
"look at my bunny rabbit with pointy ears, a smile and eyes. I drew hearts for it too."
Rescuing a beetle we found in the middle of our garden path. we were amazed at the "shiny, purply, bluey colour on it's back and belly." We found a safe place for him behind the bushes
Amazing imaginations in P1!
Cable drum being used as a stage and fishing platform! This girl caught "hundreds of fish!"
Being responsible and caring for a baby. Making sure they are getting "lots of walks and fresh air to keep happy and a cover to keep warm."
As part of our Resilient Kids program we have been looking at Nursery Rhymes and Traditional Tales. We thought carefully about how the characters feel in the story and rhymes and messages that we can take from this into P1. Such as being kind and helpful and working hard.
Yesterday, we really enjoyed the story of The Three Little Pigs. We acted it out showing great expression with our faces, bodies and voices. We then worked hard in pairs and helped each other to build houses like the 3 little pigs did. We could choose to use straw, sticks or bricks. We measured, shared and balanced and kept trying even when it as tricky!
P1 Patterns! This week we have been exploring pattern all around us! These P1's have been spotting pattern everywhere! We have been making repeating patterns with a range of materials in our play, painting patterns, drawing patterns, making patterns with body movements. It is great to see the children take what we are learning about and exploring it their own ways during continuous play.
Look at these brilliant ball skills too! We were working on careful ball control in PE this week. We concentrated to move the balls around parts of our body and tried so hard with throwing, bouncing and catching , well done!
We are delighted to now be able to share some photos of what we have been up to P1 the last few weeks. Enjoy looking through these photos of our happy, clever, confident P1s.
Leading their own learning through play indoors, outdoors and in the gym hall. Playdough making, measuring with string, cutting, threading, we have packed a lot in so far!
We are so impressed with you all!
This week we had some super discussions at circle time all about our feelings. We thought about what makes us feel angry, scared and worried and what we can do to help ourselves if we are feeling this way. We took part in relaxation stories, tried calm breathing and painted to soothing music.
We chose picture cards to help us tell, write and illustrate our own stories. We are authors and illustrators in P1.!
Some children were problem solving how to make a lift for a toy plane.
Our P1s are enjoying turn taking games. Some of us played dominoes and were great at knowing how many sorts there were without having to count them.
Well done everybody!
We have loved the first two weeks with our new class of Primary Ones. They have all been superstars! We have been so pleased to see them settle into class routines and school life so well. We have been having a great time beginning to get to know each other through play and games both indoors and outdoors. There has been lots of smiles, giggles, discussions, co-operation, independence, resilience and fun going on! We are sure there will lots of tired children this weekend after our 2 weeks of P1 fun! Look out for some fab photos coming soon once all permissions have been checked.
