We worked daily to build our fine motor skills to strength our hands. We should keep practising to get faster and help us with our handwriting. We try to promote listening and talking through our everyday play. A telephone was a big conversational interest. We practise our reading and do different activities for fun. We made shadows after reading "Who is it?" We loved doing hot seating to ask our character questions and think more about the story. We love reading and we are getting better at choosing books for enjoyment.
Please find below our class COP26 Poster that outlines our promises to the planet. We can all help the world!!
Star winners - well done -keep up the hard work.
Being outdoors in all weathers is really important for us. We have a beautiful sensory garden we use daily and over the course of November we are going to our local woods. The children are excited and always want to know what we will. be doing next. We run, play and take risk. . We use our loose parts to develop our movement, creativity and often our role play. The children showed some great interest in looking, using and piling leaves up. This was our first task in the woods as we sorted and described our leaves. We will count and use these next week. We talked about keeping safe in the woods and making our own risk assessment. We will continue to refer and build on this as the weeks go on.
After we spoke about Bonfire night, we learnt about another special event that has fireworks. Diwali is a festival of light celebration for the Hindu religion. We watched a wee clip on it, looked in the big book and are looking forward to Elsie story book next week. We saw and liked the beautiful bright coloured patterns and shapes they use on their doorstep for good luck. This is called a Rangoli. We made our own.
We played with farm animals in our hay before moving onto messy play of rice
The children have been playing role play in their dens with teddies, puppets,
The children wanted to set up a hairdresser after learning that Kipper went. to get his hair cut there. We have had signs, shaves, blow dries and more.
We are expanding and developing our block play all the time. I had two wonderful helpers on Wednesday as we sorted the new blocks in our open area. We counted, sorted by size, compared and organised it in our new unit.
Our buildings have become taller and more creative . We work with pattern and symmetry as we build shops, houses, car parks, towers, ramps, roads and bridges.
The Kapla has been popular to make shapes and add loose parts to make it more elaborative. It shows skills in balance, focus, fine motor, stalking and counting.
We have also used our bricks to make numbers and letters too as we learn more and more in these areas.
During our numeracy we have been working hard on lots of different areas. We have discovered many many jigsaws so we will continue to work through them all to sort them.
We have been doing lots of measuring during play by comparing ourselves to each other, jigsaws and even our giant numicon.
We have been using numicon to explore numbers. P2 have been looking at odd and even numbers. We had the odd and even numicon train during role play too. We have put them together to make adding sums and discovering what two numbers make 5, 7 or 10?
Lastly we play different games to practise our time. We talk about o'clock and half past.
Literacy Learning
Writing potions, spells and lists.
Picking pictures that begin with p and working on our cutting skills.
Completing alphabet jigsaws and looking carefully at the sounds.
Building strength in our fingers and fine motor skills - bob the ball, pegging, click blocks, making letters, etc.
P2 focusing on writing all initial sounds correctly. and working on their beginning blends.
Working on reading our character names from memory.
Talking and playing together.
We have been working on Little Red and over the next couple of weeks we will be taking home some books for us to share with our families.
Some amazing stars at the beginning of term two for independent learning and settling in so well to a new school.
This term is going to be very busy! We have lots of things planned. We started the term by exploring Halloween. We had lots of creative costumes and we continued this in role play through our play. We made potions and learnt about pumpkins. This was good as we were learning our p sound. The P2s worked with magnetic letters to make scary words that were rhyming. We spent time estimating pumpkin seeds, peeling them off the paper towels and putting them into groups of 20. Our P2s counted them by counting in 2s. We had lots of building, shapes, patterns and playing with games too.
