SAFE, HAPPY, LEARNING, RESPECTFUL
Welcome to our blog for Term 2. We hope you enjoy seeing what we have been learning about in Primary 1! It looks set to be a busy and exciting term for us all! Any questions about what you see, please get in touch with us in the usual ways.
Mrs McAra and Mrs Henderson :-)
The last day of term is here! Primary 1 has been full of festive sprit the last 2 weeks. We have had loads of fun singing, dancing, crafting, creating, playing and relaxing together.
We would like to say well done to the children for their hard work and enthusiasm for their learning. Thank you to our families for their support and engagement this term.
We hope you all have an enjoyable, relaxing holiday and stay safe. We look forward to seeing you all in the new year.
Snapshots from P1 over the last few weeks!
Marvelous maths: counting backwards and working on our subtraction skills.
Super scissor skills cutting out our sounds from magazines and newspapers.
Christmas preparations with decorating and dancing fun!
Outdoor joy!
Brilliant blocks! We have been loving block play. Our creations are getting more complex and we are working so well together. We have had chairs, castles with layers, tunnels and defense, ramps and so much more.
There has been lots of role play going on in P1. We have loved acting out the Bear Hunt story, taking on family roles in the house, counting money and serving in our cafe/shop, looking after animals and humans as doctors and vets. What great imagination!
We are enjoying working on our reading. Some of us acted out the story of A Good Trick today using boxes, rugs and sheets. We have also enjoyed relaxing with books in the open area.
We have been working on story sequencing and character description. Ask us to tell you the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and what the characters are like. There has been lots of fun acting out the story, describing and making the characters and we made a thought tunnel for Jack to walk down.
We were thinking about colour mixing when we were painting this week.
We learned the o sound and some of us made Octopus with o's on their legs. This was great for our fine motor skills.
We read the story of Stick Man and took this into the woods. We made collections of special sticks, counted them and got creative with them. We had stick letters, numbers, boats, nests, wings, motorbikes, campfires, houses....! We then chose a favourite stick to take home. It is amazing what can be done with a simple stick!
Fun Fridays in the wonderful woods! We have learned about staying safe using our own risk assessment, the loop we will walk each week and how to explore with a partner. Last week we were so lucky some of us got to watch a pair of squirrels scampering around the leaves and up the trees! This week we were collecting lots of special leaves and sorting them into categories relating to size, texture and colour. We were amazed at how adventurous our children were today. The found steep paths to climb carefully and marvelous mud hills to slide down and squelch in. It was great to see children working with their partners and helping each other climb and be safe.
Here is a wee snapshot of our learning from the last two weeks. We found out about Bonfire Night and made firework pictures for our cloakroom. In maths, we have been exploring pattern, counting backwards and adding sets. In literacy we are loving the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. We are working hard on retelling the story. We have made a giant beanstalk in our class and Jack snuck in to visit our class , we found his footprints and a letter then wrote lots of messages back for him. Some of us pretended to be Jack today and went in the hotseat to answer lots of tricky questions about the story, this made us really think and laugh lots! We have trying so hard with our phonics, reading and and rhyme too.
We have so enjoyed being back learning and having fun together in Primary1. The children all settled in well this week, well done everybody. We had lots of Halloween fun, it was great to see lots of you dressed up on Friday. We laughed lots and listened so carefully to instructions to play Witch Tig and the Haunted House games in PE.
We pretended to be witches and muddled up all our sounds tubs. We had to think carefully about what each thing began with to sort them into the correct tubs.
We also carefully drew, cut and painted to make paper plate pumpkins.
We listened to a story called "How many seeds in a pumpkin. Following on from this story, we carried out our own investigations. we estimated how many seeds would be in each pumpkin, we scooped the seeds out, cared the pumpkin, dried the seeds out, used our fine motor skills to peel and move the seeds then we counted in groups of 10 to see how many seeds our large pumpkin had. Ask us if the message from the story was true in our case....!
Here is the story if you want to listen again!
