SAFE, HAPPY, LEARNING, RESPECTFUL
After wrapping up our hockey unit in P.E., we were so excited to celebrate our progress! We've worked hard to perfect our dribbling, passing, and tackling techniques. We've really focused on our control with the ball and learned many of the important rules of hockey.
To showcase everything we've learned, we put all of our skills to the test in a class tournament.
Each team came up with a team name, colour, mascot, and chant. We also each took on the role of a captain, coach, manager or trainer. It was so much fun!
Look at us in action!
Take a look at our six amazing teams below! They worked fantastically together and showed good sportsmanship🏑
Have a look at some of the amazing 3D shapes we have created using only spaghetti, marshmallows, and our knowledge of 3D shape properties!
We carefully considered how many faces, edges, and vertices each shape has when building them.
To be successful, we also had to use our measuring skills to make sure we had equal length edges.
Take a look at some of the amazing activities we experienced during STEM week below!
Miss Reid taught us about germs and the effectiveness of soap in eliminating them. We also tried on PPE to better understand what nurses wear to protect themselves from germs.
Mr Kruezi spoke to us about his career and introduced his groundbreaking project, 'ITER.' We are excited to follow its progress!
The STEM leaders challenged us to create air-powered cars. We tested our designs and compared the distances they travelled to see which one went the furthest.
Mr Lilley visited us to discuss his career as an architect, showcasing some of his projects and explaining the various stages involved in constructing a new building. He also gave us the opportunity to design our own plans based on a given brief.
Mya and Emmanuel joined us for a drumming session, where we explored connections to our current topic, the seven continents. We also learned a great deal about African culture and traditions.
A huge thank you to all of our visitors. We loved STEM week and learnt so much! ☺️
One of our amazing pupils in P6 brought in some pieces of rope from his sea cadets. He taught us how to tie an wreath knot, and even challenged some of his peers to try a figure of eight knot! 😃
This term in P.E., we've been building our gymnastics skills by practicing balances, jumps, and rolls. We've also been combining these elements to create smooth sequences.
After mastering our solo balances, we decided to challenge ourselves with paired balances. To succeed, we needed to hold each balance for 3-4 seconds. We accomplished this by engaging our core, using our arms for stability, and maintaining focus on a fixed point.
Snow Days❄️
Primary 5/6 loved having the snow this week!
We decided to make the most of the weather and practise our spelling words by writing them in the snow. Our focus this week has been the long 'a' / 'a-e' sound.
Here is the termly organiser for term 2! 🌟
We had a great time over the Christmas period. We danced at our parties, took part in our Christmas show, and competed in the Christmas Olympics!
We have been working on our times tables to become quicker and more confident at them.
We have been learning about money and how to calculate change. This will help us in real life.
Primary 5/6 were provided with the opportunity to go on a trip to Knocknagael Archaeology Site. On their visit, the children received a tour of the site where they learnt about the trenches and stratigraphy. They really enjoyed getting hands-on and sieving to look for their own finds!
During Halloween week, P5/6 completed their learning with a spooky twist! 🎃
We practised writing out our spelling words with slimy spaghetti and in texture trays.
We also learnt about amazing adjectives, which we used in a game to describe different parts of a pumpkin. This will help us in our story writing!
