Yes, supporting Israel means supporting genocide

"With the assistance of of U.S. tax dollars ($3.8 billion a year to be exact) and the U.K.’s endorsement, Israel has been committing genocide against the nation of Palestine. Just on day seven of Israel’s attack on Gaza, 170, 000 Palestinians have been displaced and 250 have been murdered. It’s a whopping difference in comparison to the 0 displacements and 0 deaths of Israels."

Early May, Sheikh Jarrah, a Palestinian neighborhood, was brutally attacked by Israel. Israel murdered Palestinian children, wiped out gene-rations of Palestinians, turned Palestinian children into orphans, and displaced many. Israeli courts evicted Palestinians from their homes which they’ve lived in for decades and replaced them with Israeli settlers. The attack on Sheikh Jarrah is just one of the many attacks Israel has been committing upon Palestine for the past 73 years.

By their own words, Israel claims to have been around for thousands of years, however that is not the case. Israel’s conquest to take over Palestine began in 1948. Several Western nations are responsible for the establishment of Israel. After the Holocaust, the Jewish community sought out a safe haven and were given Palestine. Gradually, more Jewish people bought land from Palestinians, migrated in waves and the state of Israel was formed. Unfortunately, Israels began to forcibly steal (colonize) land from Palestinians and this created Palestinian refugees who were forced to fled.

It’s lazy to call it a “conflict” or “dispute.” Conflicts are two sided, often equal strengths on both sides. It isn’t a conflict when the most Palestinians can do is throw stones, meanwhile Israel has the Israel Defense Force (IDF) and, frankly, the “best military in the world.” Essentially, Palestinians are sitting ducks, waiting to be bombed by Israel.

Just last month, Israel bombed a Gaza media tower that houses news outlets AP and Al-Jazeera, bombed Palestine’s largest bookstores, erasing Palestinian history and archives. Israel is censoring the media and destroying thousands of works of arts created by Palestinians. Israel has even taken it to social media to spread their propaganda via female Israel soldiers and the official Israel twitter page. It’s been reported that Israel pays students to defend their country on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.

Where’s Palestine’s government funded army? Where’s Palestine’s bomb shelters?

Palestine has neither while Israel has that and more.

“I can’t really begin to describe how it feels to have lost 22 members of our extended family,” stated Husam El-Qoulaq, a Palestinian facing the brutal affects of Israel’s airstrikes. He goes on and shares the ages of those he lost. The youngest ranging from 6 months old to 90 years old. What we are witnessing is ethnic cleansing in real time.

Navigating through Palestine as a Palestinian is very restricting as movement is heavily policed by Israel Security Forces. The West Bank (smaller than Conneticut) has over 60 checkpoints resulting in Palestinian’s losing income beause they forcily waste much of their day at checkpoints.

While Israelis sunbathe by the beach, Palestinian women sleep in their hijabs just in case they’re bombed at night. Palestine is powerless. How unfair is it that an American tourist from New York has more freedom than a Native Palestinian?

Many believe that religion is the root of the cause which isn’t entirely true. Let me tell you why this notion is dangerous. One, it allows the Israeli government to avoid accountability by framing any criticism towards them as anti-semitisim. Anti-semitism is defined as “hostility to or prejudice against Jewish people”. Fun fact, it isn’t anti-semitic to call out imperialism. Two, Palestinian Christians exist and they’re also victims of Israel’s crimes.

Today, things haven’t gotten any better. Israel continues to colonize Palestine and Palestinians are left hopeless, traumatized, and dead. Fortunately, with the rise of social media, we’re allowed to see first hand accounts from Palestinians living in Palestine. Movements advocating for a free Palestine have also gained momentum in the mainstream media.

Palestinian’s places of worship are being set ablaze, Palestinians are taking refugee in schools, Israel soldiers are assaulting women, and baby’s are developing PTSD from Israel’s bombs. In Gaza, 40% of the population is made up of children under 14. The atrocity Israel is committing is undeniable, so yes siding with Israel means you’re siding with genocide. We should all be in support of Palestine. Neutrality makes one complacent, silence makes one complacent.
