Greg Carradine, after working 23 years as a David Douglas teacher, coach, coordinator, administrator, and division chair will become the high school’s ninth principal, starting July 1, 2021.

“Greg is an amazing educational leader who time and time again has demonstrated his vision, his strong leadership, and most importantly his belief in students,” Superintendent Ken Richardson said. “His commitment to student achievement, growth, our continued equity work, and passion for student and family engagement, are just some of his strengths. His genuine care for students and families and his true understanding of servant leadership is a model for us all.”

Carradine will be replacing Principal John Bier, who is retiring this year after serving as principal for 13 years. For the remainder of the 2020-21 school year, Bier will be the principal and Carradine will continue to work as an assistant principal, as well as participating in transition activities that will help prepare him for becoming a principal, including the implementation of the hybrid schedule in April.

“I'm looking forward to collaborating with David Douglas' staff, students, and families to create a positive learning environment so all students can develop essential skills for their post-secondary choices,” Carradine said.

Carradine began his DDHS career in 1997 as an Electronic, Automotive, and AutoCAD teacher. He also worked as a varsity football assistant coach from 1997-2010, and earned the honor of being Assistant Football Coach of the Year in 2004. He was also Teacher of the Year in 2007. He chaired the Professional-Technical Department from 2005-10, and was the Attendance Coordinator in 2010. In 2011, Carradine graduated from Marylhurst University with a BA in Communications while serving as the summer school principal.

Carradine earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Portland State while also obtaining his K-12 administrative license in 2013. In that same year, he was selected as the Athletic Director as was named the Mt. Hood Conference Athletic Director of the Year—twice. He continued to work as Athletic Director until 2019 when he was promoted to an assistant principal.
