The first ever LGBTQ+ drag show bar, right here in Portland, dazzles the stage and is the first to be nominated to become a part of the national registry of historical places.

Portland's own Darcelle XV Showplace has been run by the drag performer Darcelle XV since 1967. This opening was two years before the Stonewall riots in New York City. This bar is important to the LGBTQ+ community because it is rare to see an old establishment like this still owned and ran by the same person.

The report to get the Showplace nominated focuses on the importance of keeping a LGBTQ+ place on the map for representation.

The national register of historic places has been around since 1966 and has been protecting historic places ever since. Some of those places include the Oregon Trail, Clackamas Lake in Government Camp, OR., Timberline Lodge in Government Camp, OR., the Willamette river and many others.
