Should we have expected any better from these candidates?

Well, with the passing of the Presidential Debate on Tuesday, Sept. 29, the race for president has become even more unclear.

If anyone was expecting better than what the debate was, I’m sorry your faith in humanity and the candidates was too high. For the people who were unable to watch the presidential debates, it was 90 minutes, with six segments with a different topic per segment. The six segments were The Trump and Biden Records, The Supreme Court, Covid-19, The Economy, Race and Violence in our Cities, and The Integrity of the Election.

With the ongoing struggle and arguments of the first presidential debate, the rules changed. However, with President Trump getting COVID-19 and his disagreement to a video conference debate, the second presidential debate has been canceled. I personally believe that the President’s handling of not wanting to do a video conference debate is a childish and ignorant move.

I believe that how both candidates acting during the first debate was immature and downright unruly. If either candidate acted that way in a classroom, they would have either kicked out of class or given detention, maybe both. This is a completely unacceptable way the future president should be acting. They should be polite, kind, and respectful to people who either ask questions or are having a conversation with them.

In my opinion, both candidates flunked the debate, but here is my opinion on how each candidate responded to questions and accusations. To me, President Trump was constantly argumentative and intrusive, using personal attacks against Biden and constantly speaking over and ignoring the moderator. Vice President Biden, well still argumentative, was more put together and respectful of the moderator. I do believe Biden telling Trump to shut up was not the wisest move. I do respect the guts it takes to say that, because really how many people would actually do that.

The debates have never made much change in the way people vote. They are still a good way to learn information, for the youth to learn about politics, and who will be running our country.
