Open discussion to entire class
While Listening Activity
Hand a calendar (Appendix D) to each student
Play the video (Appendix F) once to let students get familiar with the order of events
Play the video again to let students fill out the calendar
After the video part is over, have students compare their calendars with a partner or in a small group
Fill out a calendar together as a class, either on the computer (projected) or printed out to hang in the classroom
Post-Listening Activity
Assign each small group (same groups as before) a section of the printed text (Appendix G)–by circling a passage on the printed text and handing it to each group.
Each group discusses the section and comes up with one question about that section for the classroom; a member of the group writes the question down.
When all groups are finished, a representative for each group reads their question out loud.
Students in the classroom will raise their hands to reply, and you will facilitate the process & help with answers as needed.
Class Discussion
Project the post-activity questions (Appendix H) on the screen
Have the students turn to their partner or small group and discuss the questions
Have the groups share what they talked about with the whole class, for 5-10 minutes
Facilitate a class discussion around the bolded questions in (Appendix H) for 10 minutes, or as long as time permits.
